What is this Ymax test? This is an incoming call.

Post by nighthawks »

I get a call every so often, first is "3 tones then "You've reached the ymax communication test number, this test was successful." 3 ending tones.

Now this is a call coming in and it's recorded on my answering maching and not my MJ's voice mail..

When I did a search under "ymax" it found search found 274 matches
and "ymax test" search found 1229 matches.

So I did try, just don't have the time to look at all these matches.

What's this about if anyone knows.
Regards
John

I can't specifically comment on your calls, but I can say that after I reported a malfunction (which probably was not caused by mJ) I got interruptive calls which said something like "This is a YMAX solutions test - the test was successful", and the call would disconnect me from whatever call I was on. I got maybe three of these. Solutions and successful were definitely mentioned. Yours would seem to be a malfunction, especially given the volume.

Is this their way of testing, call my number after I was online chat support for over an hour? What do their engineers really do?

MJ is about worthless to me now, all problems from A-Z after moving from Louisville KY(no problems)to Savannah TN.

I figure I'll have to call Charter and see what they have to offer.
I understand you get what you pay for, but my problems with MJ is just unreal, I need a phone service that actually works, and emphases on "works"

Just really pissed off as a 5 year customer + 10 for a new number and barley a phone service.

This sounds to me like it could be a device in your house attempting to make a call to something other than a valid 10 digit number. MJ is responding with that test message and the whole thing is picked up by your answering machine.

I had this happen again, a friend was calling and I was in the middle of something so I let my answer machine get it, it was there phone number but it wasn't my friend leaving the message it was the Ymax test message.

What's up with that?

I don't use any wireless router connections, all Ethernet cables.

I only have my cordless phones, Uniden PowerMax 5.8gig, has a base w/handset and 2 other handsets, Base in our computer room, handset in living room and one in out bed room.

I've tried every "fix" I could find here on these forms, DSL Reports and just looking on Google using keywords search.

I've done the router port-forwarding 5060 and 5070, MJ chat support said that's the only 2 I needed. They also had me put in (on my thin client) there DSN numbers. under the TCP/IP Properties, uncheck the Auto., Check the Obtain use the following DNS server address.
Perf. 67.90.152.122
Alt. 67.107.71.186

Lets ask this question.
My ISP is Charter, 16meg internet, and TV.
Can all this effect MJ?

Awhile ago I called Charter tech support and asked if they have had problems running MJ on Charter's ISP. There is a thread in DSL Reports that someone said that Charter does port blocking. The Tech. said they had nothing in the database about any problems with MJ and Charter, so no other complaints about MJ and Charter........Ok.....I'll have to take their word on that......I guess....

I've spent more time on MJ than I ever did when I got it in Louisville KY.
Real good support for the prefix's" in the 502 area code.
When I got my new number for 731 Savannah's area code I ended up using 215 prefix which is in Jackson TN and it's 56.6 miles from Savannah, all the other's (5) I could use from using 731 area code were about the same distance or farther away. Local callers have to call me long distance, a pain in my #ss.

In Louisville Ky when I did the MJ thing.
Had MJ, got a TC "get this" Neoware 400Mhz w/256ram, got it all fired up and MJ installed and did nothing else other than talk on my phone.

No messing around with the Router, DSN numbers, zip- zero- zilch nodda.

I get to Savannah TN back in Oct 1, had the internet by the second and nothing but problems with MJ. I said to myself, self maybe my problem is the 400Mhz 256Ram TC. It's like the story of the "Little Train That Could" (Again in all my reading on these forms.) I was kinda pushing the Little Slow TC to it's max and it just can't make the grade.

After a week or so got a TC 1gig. w/512Ram and a 4gig. micro drive. the person who I got this from (eBay) has it set so MJ will run on the micro drive and you never have to mess with the "write" apl. Ok cool when I saw this, I got it, got it setup and it's still bad, the only difference is I'm not pegging my processor speed. all problems with MJ are still a issue.

Ever since I received this Ymax test call a few days ago, my MJ has been dropping calls. I reviewed the thread here -

http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/inco ... t4448.html

Am trying some port forwarding. I don't want to DMZ. I have a Netgear router though, not a Linksys. We'll see.

I don't think my problems were from the Ymax test call. I didn't see that a "Lucky You" down grade had gone through until I rebooted and saw it running again. Port forwarding didn't work and neither did placing my thin client in the DMZ. The only thing that seemed to help was disabling SIP ALG in my router. So far that seems to take care of the 33 second phone calls I've been getting. but why now after two years of almost flawless performance.

Recorded message, "You have reached YMAX Communications

Post by User919 »

... test number. This call was successful."

If you got this message on your answering machine, try calling your MJ number from another phone. Do you get the same recorded message? That is what is happening with my MJ. I can call out but people cannot call in. They get this message when they call. When I sit next to my MJ phone and use my cell phone to call, my MJ phone doesn't ring. I just hear that same recorded message.

I finally did a live chat with the MJ folks and they tried to resolve the problem. They had me update MJ, then uninstall MJ, then reinstall MJ, but nothing worked. They said they would refer the problem to their TelCo engineers. I tried to find out by when the problem would be resolved but their upper level tech support person would not commit to any kind of time frame. When/If the problem gets resolved, I will report back.

You should go into your online MJ account and make sure that call forwarding isn't turned on. If it isn't, then it's a number assignment and/or call routing problem that only MJ and YMAX (YMAX is the name of the actual phone company that is used for all MJ services) can fix.

Thank you

You were right. Call forwarding was on. I turned it off and called my MJ number from my cell phone and it rang. Thank you so much! I spent about an hour in a live chat with 2 different MJ employees today. Doesn't it seem like they should have known to tell me that???????????

LOL. Glad I can help. MagicJack "Live Help" is *UNBELIEVABLY* bad... the absolute worst and most incompetent "customer support" of any company anywhere on the globe, regardless of type of business.

BTW - You'll need to get into the habit of periodically going online into your MJ account to make sure they haven't messed with your account settings... as far as I know they don't do so deliberately but sometimes when they "update" their "system" they somehow manage to (presumably inadvertently) mess with some people's settings...

Best of luck when you have a much more serious problem. Learn the ins-and-outs of your router's settings, so that when the time comes and they ridiculously and bizarrely insist on you letting them gain remote control of your router and/or pc for absolutely NO good or even logical reason - believe me, this WILL happen - you can confidently and repeatedly say "No way Jose, just fix your OWN network's damned problems!"

Also, whenever you try to get them to fix something on their end that you know darned well is "broken" on THEIR end be VERY direct and specific, but also be VERY careful not to complain to them ABOUT their incompetence or even imply it to them... keep repeating what you know for a fact and observe to be true if you have to... because they've *seemed* to have on occasion become a bit vindictive and without warning deliberately cancelled or otherwise screwed up the service of some customers...

Fee to renew a transferred phone number

Post by User919 »

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be on my best behavior when I chat with them!

I also just learned that if you transfer a phone number to your MJ account, they charge you $10 every year after that to renew that number. This is in addition to what you pay for the MJ service. If you don't want to pay, you can change to a free number for a one-time charge of $10. Of course they know that most folks want to keep the number they transferred, so they will pay. Still, it really pisses me off!
