HELP! Waiting on port for my old number.
I activated my magicJack exactly one month ago today.
I have attempted to port my old number sevral times and still cannot do so.
I cannot close my account with my land line service until the number is ported over. (If I do, I lose my old number.) Meanwhile I am continuing to pay for that service until I can get my number ported.
What's the deal? I can't save any money until the port goes through andI can close that account. Your tech support online appears to be automated and can't explain what the problem is.
You advertised that you could port my old number and that is what compelled me to make the switch. I am beginning to feel that MagicJack is a SHAM!
My service provider says that there is no issue with porting my number. All that has to be done is for MagicJack to make the port request. After one month, MagicJack has yet to make this port request. (Again, I have requested the port from MagicJack numerous times and to no avail.)
Are there any REAL LIVE people in Tech Support that can help me with this? Why can't MagicJack do something this simple?

I might have to ask you a few questions.
- Are you porting in a Canadian Phone Number?
- Is the Number not associated to any DSL Line, ring master, distinctive ring etc etc.
- Have you contacted your carrier and that there's freeze in your account? POTS/PSTN
===================
If you have answers yes to any of the questions above then most probably this has caused your porting request to fail.
If you answered NO for all questions then, I RETURN mJ and get your REFUND.

As I said, my provider says there is no issue with porting my number, MJ just has to merely request it. It is a US number.
Not quite sure that I understand your question: Is the Number not associated to any DSL Line, ring master, distinctive ring etc etc.
I do have internet service on the line and as soon as my number is ported over, I can change the account to DSL only.

Then in that case, it seems that your number is associated to certain exchanges/area codes which MJ currently does not serve for free...
Yet another reason to port your telephone number to Google Voice instead of magicJack.
I did that to begin with, and am forwarding all calls from GV to mJ+. Of course it cost me $20 (one-time fee) to do the transfer from a mobile phone to GV and $25 before that to port the AT&T landline number to a temporary mobile phone, but the up side is that now if anything wonky happens with the mJ+, I can just forward the GV number to a different phone, skype, or voip number of my choice.

Hmmmmm
Please describe for us in detail where, how, and when you attempted to port your landline number to MJ?
What is your area code and exchange
are you certain your telco allows for 'naked DSL"?
We are a group of MJ users and are totally independent of MJ and YMAX. MJ official support is only offered by web chat through the magicjack.com website

I attempted numerous times at different times of the day. Most recently yesterday about mid-day. My provider is aware that I wanted to cut my service back to DSL only after I got my number ported and there was no mention that that wasn't an option.
It would be nice if MJ could explain why they can't do it instead of saying it can't be done at this time and to try back later. Totally frustrating!!

(OP is served by Centurytel in rural Mississippi, which may be the root of the problem)LoveToSail wrote:AC and prefix is 205-688crackerjack wrote:Please describe for us in detail where, how, and when you attempted to port your landline number to MJ?

Are you able to call other Centurytel customers in your immediate area 205-688.
What is the MJ website telling you when you attempt to port your number? Is the process completing there?
You should get a pretty obvious error message during the porting process on the MJ website if the port isn't possible.
There is a distinct likelihood that you are scrooged.
Good Luck

Message? Same as always (moments ago): "We're sorry, your telephone number cannot be transferred at this time. Please check back in the future."
Unable to port my number
I tried to port my AT&T number to mj and couldnot because I had dsl. The number was available though. So I cut off my dsl . And waited 2 weeks
I called AT&T and ask if the number could be ported and they said yes.
I have tried numerous times since then and mj says the number is not available to port. It was and now it isn't ? AT&T says all they got to do is send the order they can't stop it

Whether or not your "old" number can be ported into MJ is NOT controlled by MJ. It's controlled ENTIRELY by your old/previous telephone company (and the limitations on number porting as stated by relevant federal regulations). Therefor, sometimes MJ is unable to give you ba truly accurate and final answer on whether or not your number can be ported in until they actually try to do it.
