Magic Jack, and my old PBX system

Post by geminixo »

Howdy gang.

I have a small problem with my MagicJack system that just popped up today.

I have a small hotel with 20 rooms, and an old PBX system tied to 3 outgoing lines. Each room has a phone connected to the PBX.

I replaced the three lines, with three magic jacks pluses, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. Clients dial 9, and get the magicjack dial tone...great. This worked fine for one week.

However, all of a sudden today, things took a turn for the worse.

Clients dial 9, and still hit the dial tone, but when they dial, they hear nothing, however, the call completes, and reaches its destination...but no sound transmits on either end.

I tested this by calling my own cell phone with one of the room phones, and sure enough, my cell would ring, but no sound transmitted.

I tried plugging into one of the magic jacks with a regular old telephone, and it worked with no problems (audio wise,) what on earth could be causing this?

I haven't port forwarded any of the magicjacks yet....should I? All three devices are plugged directly to the modem. All devices have New York numbers (despite me being in Canada.)

Any other troubleshooting tips you can recommend? Thank you so much in advance.

Cheers

Since MJ has a limit on daily calls and monthly total minutes and since you are using MJ in a hotel it is possible you have violated their TOS and they have suspended your account(s).
One way to find out would be to go to their online chat and inquire if your account(s) are still active. If yes, then maybe you need to reboot your modem/router, plus some people here have complained about the Plus getting to hot. Some have used a fan to keep it cool other have opened the case to do so. A search will turn up some cooling options users here have done if heat turns out to be the problem.
Just a few things of fthe top of my head.

Hmm, I don't think it's deactivated....as I can use it normally without the system, flawlessly. I tried rebooting the router, to no avail....this is strange.
