Magic Jack Plus doesn't ring anymore when connected to a LAN

Post by [email protected] »

I have a magic jack plus which is connected to a router and a phone. For some reason a problem developed about a week ago where the phone no longer rang and incoming calls started going straight to voicemail. I can make outgoing calls with no problem.

I know that it is not a problem with the phone REM, etc. since nothing has changed regarding the phone and rj11 cord. If I disconnect the ethernet cable and plug the magic jack plus into my laptop I get rings on incoming calls. Everything works fine. mjp must be okay too.

What the hell is going on? I don't want the mjp plugged into my computer since most of the time I have linux running, and besides the stupid mj app. keeps popping up on windows.

First check to make sure that there's nothing wrong with your phone, its ringer or ringer settings. Try calling your MJ-connected phone from another phone/number (such as a cell phone) but within eyesight of the phone's caller id display; if caller id comes through but without the phone ringing then you'll know it's the phone or its ringer.

If no caller id shows up: Log into your MJ account online, check to make sure that your voicemail settings are still set properly... voicemail on, delay AT least 20 seconds (I recommend 25 or 30). If you find that you've needed to change any settings, refresh your browser as a double-check that the changed settings were indeed saved. Then log off of your account and try another incoming call. If the problem still persists, log back into your MJ account, start a live help chat, describe the problem to them and suggest that they "reset" the relevant part(s) of your account (particularly the voicemail-related portion).
Using a "standard" magicJack, an "original" magicJack Plus, and the magicJack iOS app on an iPod Touch and iPhone
