***New Mods T5730 a Dual-Core 64-bit CPU & PCIe G-card

Yes I saw it I just got caught up in all of the responses we have had lately. I would be interested to see exactly what your mod looked like. I am really having fun working on getting these little thin clients to do things they were never intended to do. I went ahead and bought the GT7725 because I figured if I bought a TL-64 it would be min of $20 and the expansion module the cheapest I could find something that "may work" was $30 so I figured why not spend $10 more and just buy something that already had the faster CPU, two ram slots, expansion module and a much better graphics card. I still have to figure out what slot that S1 cpu is to see what the fastest I can upgrade it to. It should be here by Friday so I will post updates when I get it.
I had 5 T5735's and I gave one to my brother and one to my best friend who are both into IT to play around with. I have had 10+ T5740's but I put openelec on them and give them to friends and family members to stream media from the internet on via all of the plugins they have. Not what they wanted originally when made... Over $600 for some ..haha!
Now that they're not needed for the MagicJack any longer, it's great to make them more powerful to use for HD content streaming and recording, and to be able to shut them off when not used...haha!
MagicJack totally wasted them. In my opinion.
I use mine as a DVR.
Best use for it I ever had...!

I actually run my entire house off of one HTPC running a ceton infinitv 4 cable card reader and I use xbox 360's as media extenders on all of my TV's and it saves me over $100 a month in cable box/dvr rental fee's from Time Warner Cable. Have you ever messed around with XBMC? It runs fantastic on thin clients with the openelec build and there are plugins for just about anything you want on there. I watch HD TV shows and movies with my t5740 the night they come on TV. They have live sports ones as well. I am in the process of using a 5740 with a 7200rpm 2.5 sata hd with win 7 on it to run windows media center and a NTSC/ATSC clear QAM tuner to server up TV to all of my thin clients I have on my TV via the NEXTPVR plugin. This way if I want to just tune to the news or weather channel without turning the xbox on to get the nice HD feed I can just simply click a few buttons and get the SD feed of the channel right in XBMC via NEXTPVR.Oh yeah...I agree, they are wild little computers for the cost of them now...

That eBay adapter is nice, but for me to bother with removing my mobo to add the mini-PCIe connector there, I'd want a combo USB3.0 and SATA III card, otherwise it's useless to me.
By the way, that XBMC setup you have is interesting.
I may look into that, but if the openelec build needed to run it is an entirely separate OS, I'm not taking out my Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit OS.

I'll check out the XBMC in more detail later, but quickly looking at it, it's interesting.
I already have Windows Media Center add-on as my player, but if XBMC can be a streamer to my iPad2...that could be interesting.
I don't have a JailBroken iDevice to install XBMC directly..

That seems like allot of work to pull off that power mod. Did you try to look for a bigger PSU that would fit before you did that or was it just a case of using what you had on hand at the time? Yeah, I looked for a PSU that had the same connector, and found the 8 Amp one I link to earlier in this thread, but I wanted a larger PSU wattage, and the existing connector was only good enough for 8 Amps.T5735 wrote: That seems like allot of work to pull off that power mod. It will take about 5 minutes to get everything all setup and you will be watching HD movies and TV shows in no time.
The 16 Amp PSU connector uses 8 Amps each wire on the 2 wire-pairs.
In other words... 8 amps each wire for plus = 16 Amps total
The minus supports the 16 Amp return to chassis ground.
By the way, I edited my last post again, after you seem to have answered quicker than I edited it.

i soldered the RAM socket
i mesed up my 1 pcs but the second thin client and ram pcs is soldered
it took many hours
but soldering this shit wasn't easy. the socket do not fit 100 % (looks little bit shit, but tested all connections ...)

the metal thing that should be soldered to stabilize the socket don't fit i have broken it away and now it fits. later will solder there something.
i think i know what resistor must i buy and solder.

you see these 470 8pcs
they are on the 1 socket but in the second they are not ...
they are 47ohm
i think something like this

Yes, the resistors RN23 thru RN30 may be Data line resistors for the RAM Module of the 2nd socket. Are they on the bottom side of the motherboard? Yikes!krzysiek841 wrote:hi

But I'm concerned about the stabilizing bars that needed to be cut-off.
If the bars didn't match the trace pattern on the board, could the pins not match the trace patterns too?
I'll need to check the match-up of the .6mm spacing of the pins when I get my samples too.
I can solder it easier, because of the Hot-Air solder station, but maybe it should be .5mm spacing of the pins instead of .6mm
Did the socket pins look like they matched the boards spacing of the pins?
Of so, the stabilizing bars should have matched too.

You know... I'm guessing but if there are 8 resister packs, maybe the T5730 is expecting modules with 8 chips on each side of the module for each socket too.

It looks like you needed to remove the two front USB port connectors.
Did you solder them back again, if they were removed?
And have you tried the second memory chip with power on yet, or are you waiting for the 47 ohm resistor packs first?
By the way, how are you sure all your soldering is good, on the 2nd socket?
Also, have you tried turning on the computer with the first RAM in and no other RAM yet to see if all original RAM and connections still works?
Getting a schematic is most likely impossible.
I tried getting one to find out the wiring of the expansion socket.

i have looked on the pins and with multimeter tested all 200 connections to their pads and to neighbor. i have tested a ram module in it the keyboard blinks like normal but no screen ... in first socket ram attached and in second. when i took the 1 the same, and only with the second the same too.
usb not soldered yet. when it all works than i solder it.
it was easier to solder but with yours hot air i dont know if you must unsolder them.

this ? are the thing that i don't know ...

could be standard .01 ufd or .1 ufd for power pin decoupling caps.
R473 may not be needed, if no other resister for socket 1 doesn't match
OK...
with 2nd RAM in socket, keyboard blinks, but no screen,
but did you try just the one original RAM in ... without 2nd module in?
And does the screen come on, and system boots up?
In other words, like it was before the 2nd socket was installed?
To see if the computer still functions?
If it shows the screen .. and all is ok...
You can connect the two front USB port connectors...
you may need to wait for the resistor packs and to put the missing caps for
the power pin decoupling, later, but it's not needed now without 2nd RAM in.
This way you can still use the computer.
If the computer still doesn't work with the original RAM in ONLY,
there may be a solder bridge, or trace wire messed up.

So your system was at least not damaged beyond usage.
OK, when you finish your holiday and have the other parts ...testing again.
During that week, we'll see if member T5735 will try it, too.
I will check the socket and how it aligns with all pins.
Maybe it's not correct part.
It could be it is good, and 47ohm resistor packs (8 packs) are needed
to complete the DATA lines to the circuit, with the power-decoupling capacitor
used as well to stop power interference, and this could be why the computer
did not boot with the 2nd socket RAM installed.
When you get the other parts in, also try a 1GB RAM in socket 2 to see
if at least that socket activates as it did for the polish members on the other site.
After all, the members on that polish site had it working with at least a 1GB
module in the 2nd socket, so this should at least work for us too.
I hope you are remembering to put back the heat-sink grease on the graphics
and CPU chips each time you remove the main board. So at least your chips
will not over-heat during these tests.

I'm wondering where R473 pads are going and coming from.
--I can not be sure from the photo, alone, but it's also possible it brings
a voltage to the 2nd socket (maybe onto pin 1 or pin 2 ? ) and may, after all, actually be needed.
I will see if I can get info of the RAM module pin-out.

I wonder if the GT7725 that I am getting this week will tell us anything? Supposedly it is just a suped up version of the 5730 with two ram slots and a different cpu socket. I am going to have to take the motherboard out anyway to see if their is a mini pci-e slot on the bottom so I will be sure to get some detailed pictures to see if it tells us anything. Also I wonder if the thin client would boot off of this in the mini pci-e slot?

yes, if you check your new ThinClient and it has that resistor on the second socket,
and can find it's value, this can help to activate the 2nd RAM module for us
on the T5730's socket 2
The mini-PCIe SATA SSD drive card looks interesting, but I don't know if it will
boot from it, unless it shows-up in the BIOS to allow this booting option,
as the other options show.
I'm still looking for a combo mini-PCIe card that supports a
USB3.0 and SATA III drive controller. So if you see this other 20GB SSD
mini-PCIe card boots, it's possible, if a USB3.0 and SATA III combo mini-PCIe
card exists, I'll be able to use it with my 2.5 inch SATA Hard drive.

yes, if you check your new ThinClient and it has that resistor on the second socket,
and can find it's value, this can help to activate the 2nd RAM module for us
on the T5730's socket 2

No I have never seen one like that. The only thing I have seen is SATA II cards and they are rather expensive. I am not even sure if that card I linked to earlier in this thread is legit because it is just a bare card with the SATA and USB 2.0 sockets coming off of it. that will probably work to boot from the SSD via the standard 44 pin IDE port if it wont boot from the mini pci-e slot. I am just hoping that the GT7725 has a mini pci-e slot on the bottom of the motherboard.
That link for the IDE to SATA II controller is like one I got, and it does work to
boot off of, but the one I had, different design, didn't allow the T5730 drive
activity LED to light
and the activity LED on that board didn't light as well
I just looked and it's using the same main chip as the one you link to on eBay.
But it has a different board layout design. Maybe they corrected that activity LED fault.

It would not work initially as the bios would just read HDD and not give the model number or anything and it wouldn't boot off of the SATA drive. After I messed around with the bios so I went over to the right and told the bios to reset to defaults and suddenly it saw my HDD and listed it as a Toshiba SATA drive and its size and it allowed me to load windows 7 on it. I didn't use that drive because it was to big to fit inside of the case and it was only 5400rpm but it did work.

I honestly don't remember if it did or not I just know it started to load windows up just fine. It's most likely a design fault with the IDE to SATA II adapter I have.
Maybe one day I'll trace the pin lines to see if there's a short to ground, thru a resister not needed

I found this PDF of a 200-pin RAM module Data-sheet

It shows the standard pin-out of a 200-pin RAM Module, on page-2 of the document.
I have to check it and see if those 47ohm resistor packs (8 packs) are actually
needed, and if the resistor R473 is needed, with the also missing capacitor (C247)
to match C215, but pins 1 and 2 are VREF and VSS, so it's possible it's
needed, unless they get their voltages from another pin, elsewhere on the board.
(Those missing resistors are near these pins, and the Caps may be voltage
bypass parts, to stabilize the voltage and remove stray EMI/RFI)
I'm guessing all the missing parts are needed, but it depends how HP wired everything.

of the RAM areas traces of both sockets, on the back of the board, and even the top,
in case a resistor or cap is there, instead of the back.

what's connected to what.

Yep it takes the same exact ram as the T5730 does. My friend actually has one and he uses it as his XBMC box. Interesting... Nice looking board.
Try getting as wide a view of the entire section of the board, on each photo, without it getting blurry, so I can zoom into the photo to see detail, if needed.

The socket is too short, width-wise.
I got in my sample sockets.
First off, it's a really cheap-looking build.
Very thin metal for the clips, and thin-looking plastic.
But, more importantly...
... it's also around 1/4 inch shorter on each end than the original one,
width-wise...from PCB stabilizing Tab to Tab.
The tabs actually rest on the memory socket memory in-front of it... Yikes...!
It would be a big problem using this even if I soldered it with the Hot-Air system and bent-away the PCB stabilizing metal tabs.
It's flimsy... And may not even hold-up to Hot-Air soldering...
I'll see if I can post a photo of how much smaller it is...but...
this definitely isn't the correct one.
In all fairness to krzysiek841, it's hard to tell, from the DataSheet,
until it's compared to the original, side-by-side.
I can't see how this company has a higher price for theirs, than the FOXXCON part.
I'm stupid also...I should have noticed that 66.8mm is below 3 inches.

The CF card adapter I got looks identical to the ones that came soldered to the $1 44 pin adapters I got from China. I also got in my GT7725 today but the idiots packaged it just in a fed ex padded envelope and the corner of it was sticking out of the envelope when I got it and it was all beat up with stuff rattling around inside of it. I will take it apart and snap some pictures a little bit later if I have time. Oh and they also didn't include a power adapter or dual monitor cable like the auction said.

Complain to eBay, and whoever delivered it, with photos of the damage if you can...package and all. If they also left out stuff mentioned in the auction...tell eBay, and ask the seller why it's not included? Dispute the payment..!
I may use the sockets in another application, but I'm going to contact this company and ask if they have one similar to the FOXXCON part.
I'll measure it this time to give an approximate size for them to compare.
I tried fitting the module into the socket, and it does fit properly, so that's why I'll keep it. I'd still like to see the new TC ..whenever you get the chance, don't rush crazy with it.
Take care of the purchase problems first, and get the photos that will help you dispute the stupid sellers packaging decision, first.

I noticed the two missing T5730 parts (R473 and C247) are included on this one, near each other, in a different area on this board, around the C215 that's on both, so that one resistor and cap are definitely needed on the T5730.
I wonder if the polish site noticed the other smaller cap and resistor?
I'm still interested in solving this, but I'm not going to force a smaller socket on the board to 'test' it.
That's why I say, take your time with this mystery.
Solve any issues with the eBay seller first.

By the way... Were you able to test the new TC?
If no PSU, maybe that was the sellers plan, so you can't see it didn't actually work.

It takes the newer large barrel power connectors like the HP nx6---- series laptops so I called one of my guys and he is bringing me one back from the warehouse and I will test it when I get it. It probably works just fine but that still does not excuse the terrible packaging. I was hoping that it included a mini pci-e slot as I could maybe use one of those SSD's in it but I think I will just spend a little bit more on a 32gb disk on module.

If you ever have a chance, and a resistance meter, see what that R473 is.
Those three parts (2 caps and 1 resistor) are near the mini-PCIe metal bracket, not the PCIe socket.
I'm thinking R473 will be either 3.3k / 4.7k or near 10k, but I may be wrong too
And the missing cap on the T5730 is bypassing to ground, any stray EMI/RFI to socket 2.
How do you have these power packs so fast...and at your or his warehouse..?

I sent the ebay seller a message before I opened a case with ebay to see if he would make it right. I sat down and looked at the CF card slot that I got as a free sample and it is totally different than the one krzysiek841 got and it looks like it will fit the bottom of the motherboard perfectly. I was also doing some google image searches and found this.

He's not using it on a TC so height may not be a factor for him.
If you're thinking of ordering it from DigiKey, or Mouser, you may as well wait to see if you're going to get the RAM sockets other parts too...

I really don't think height will be a issue as their is plenty of room under their for the socket with plenty to spare. I have been looking for the little metal clip that goes on the other end but can't find anywhere that carries it. I wonder how hard it would be to just buy this and use the hot air to desolder the port off of that board and then solder it onto the thin client? It would at least give me the metal retaining clip as well as the socket itself and would actually cost about the same as just the socket does shipped.

I'm not sure the height matches the connector you'd use, or if it has little posts that anchor into the PCB, if needed or not, but it's a start.
