Okay, I've having the exact same trouble as the OP:

I have a vista home premium sp1 laptop.... I have a dial tone but cannot connect to any telephone number or receive incoming calls. The center menu on the softphone gui briefly shows my mj telephone number before perpetually asking me to double click on it after connected to the internet. Even after completing the registration screeen I continue to get the same message from that center menu.
The reality is that VISTA is unbelievably hard to control and is blocking the MJ in some way. Here is a short list of the things I have tried:
MagicFix - says everything is okay
Reformat and Install upgrade
Regedit USB control from Admin
Anti Virus off and Firewall off
Opening TCP/UDP ports as needed by MJ including router
Has anyone figured out how to fix this scenario as yet? If I HAD any hair, I would have pulled it all out by now!!! Thanks!

I had a problem similar to yours, I use Firefox as my browser and MJ uses IE, after I installed SP1 on my Vista machine MJ would not register, the problem was that you have to accept cookies in IE whether you use IE or not. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately, it didn't work. I enabled all cookies in IE, then even ran the Vista update again, but nothing seems to get me past the constant request to register - which I've done about 500 times already! I believe the MJ WILL work - I just don't know how to get it to do so.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears and would appreciate any and all of them very much.

I also run Vista with SP!...but mine came with SP1 already installed...I did the update..and it registered and assigned me a new number and it has not missed a beat since,,,Works perfectly..
Not sure this would work ..but I would try uninstalling MJ and everything connected to it...even the device,,then try reinstalling it again from scratch...can't hurt...

Thanks...that was worth a shot, too, but no luck. I did, however, get the thing ALMOST working on an older desktop I have that's still running XP. I say almost because I can call out, sounds great, but if I call IN to the number, the home phone doesn't ring. LOL, it's always something, isn't it?

Jester....I would now try to get a new from Magic Jack...should not be that troublesome..request a return authorozation...and send it back....!!!!..If they cannot get it to work for you they should supply you will a new one..If you have not paid for it yet with hold it from your credit card.....I would not screw with it any longer....but tht is just me..

I have had my MJ for more than a month, it has worked fine with few issues on my 6510b Laptop. Up till about 2 weeks ago. Now I cannot get my MJ to work on my Vista Laptop. I think it has something to do with the Vista updates and SP1 but even after uninstalling the updates it still will not work. I have been on the phone with the techs at MJ with no help. My MJ works fine in all of my XP computers but fails with Vista. I blame Vista and I am ready to scrap it in favour of XP just to get my MJ working. I have read a lot of posts on this problem but so far have not found a resolution to my problem. I am open to ANY suggestion.

Did you go to the MJ home page and download the Vista update???I have Vista Home Premium with SP1 and it works fine..
