Can it be possible, that they check the serial number in any way? That would be the only information, which cannot be sent by an ATA or pap.
You might be on to something... I haven't gotten around to finding my MJ yet, but I'll watch the conversations between the software and the proxy see whats going on. But if the password has changed multiple times today, we might be SOL.

Did everyone having trouble change the user agent?
Today when I woke up my MJ line was no longer registered. I pulled the new SIP credentials that contained a new password and user agent. I did switch the password and the user agent to the obtained using Stroths MJ Suite. After updating the RTP300 with this information I was able to call out. A couple hours later I cannot dial out. After dialing the number I immediately get a busy signal. The ATA is still registered and capable of receiving incoming at this time. The proxy is proxy1.miami.talk4free.com

Although the proxy names have changed, they still resolve to the same ip address. Same for the Miami proxy which is what I am using. I tried putting in the IP only, but still unable to connect with my PAP2.

Maybe they are doing some type of provisioning using serial numbers from the dongle. They are suppose to be porting numbers over starting this month so maybe this is the first step.

Yes, for example.
proxy01.columbus.talk4free.com
proxy1.columbus.talk4free.com

MJ UPDATE Changed Proxy Settings

Just like everyone else 1 of my mj stopped registering, plugged dongle in it did an update. when I pulled the new sip credentials my password had changed but now there is not a proxy server listed, when before it showed proxy01.nashville.talkforfree.com.
Dongle still works, but nothing else will allow me to register. I am assuming it is proxy related.[/list]

I assume u mean SIP domain. Mine was always set to that and it has no effect for me.
At any right as of now, no Voip light and no connection. This was loading the new softphone and attempting to get pw again. I got the same pw but this apparently unregistered the ATA (hopefully temporary as I have faith on the hackers here).

No change the domain name of the ata itself not the sipdomain.
Also set the serial number of your magicjack to the hostname or name the hostname MagicJack.
The traffic from the mj doesn't send the serial yet which can easily be faked in firmware
Changed hostname on system page to MagicJack and domain to talk4free.com on system page also.

I am about to start using an ATA but i just compared the sip info I got a few weeks back to the one after I did the update, and the only thing that changed on mine was the user agent.
on may 25 the user agent was:
User-Agent = MagicJack/1.80.466c (SJ Labs)
on June 9 the user agent is:
User-Agent = User-Agent: MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)
looks as lough they added User-Agent: in front of the old information.

those who got it working , what all changes you have made
User-Agent = User-Agent: MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)

HTTP based ACL for SIP registraton

I am an Asterisk user--same problems as others are having. IDEA: when i plug in MJ, I notice traffic going to notify.magicjack.com as well as web3.magicjack.com, on port 80. I never researched this his pre-update/crisis to confirm that this is new, but I wonder if the new software does some sort of port 80 communication to whitelist/enamble the MJ's registration. Has anyone wiresharked this? If I were the MJ admin that's exactly what I'd do--An ACL based on some out-of-band (non sip) communications. I'd do it myself and post the answers here but I've not yet had a chance to get wireshark running on my perimeter firewall.

Well I was about to let my Magic Jack subscription expire and toss the thing when I stumbled upon the SIP hack. Suddenly I could actually use the service, no dropped calls, decent sound quality, no more irritating window popping up for me to minimize whenever an incoming call came, it actually got me to renew my service and now it seems the good times may be up. I've spent some time this evening messing with it and haven't come up with anything others here haven't. Here's hoping people find a "fix", otherwise I'll use up the rest of my international minutes and go back to using my cellphone for all my calls. Funny thing is it seems somewhat counterproductive for them to actively block this sort of thing. They were getting money out of me for the yearly service and for the international minutes, I wasn't using it much at all, maybe a few quick calls a week, and even when using it as intended, I'd always minimize the window as soon as it popped up so I never saw any ads anyway. Ah well. I wonder if they'll have any customers left? lol

Hi all,
I made following changes to get it to register ( I saw the SIP registration done by MJ software using Wireshark and tried to copy it )
Used OB Proxy to proxy01.boston.talk4free.com:5070
Domain as talk4free.com
User Agent as : MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)
KEY one is set Register expires to 0 - that is the change that made it work...
But still not incoming and outgoing calls

but I see successful registration.
If I change the Register expires to any other value registration fails...
Hope somebody else can use this info to see how to get incoming an outgoing calls....

I would respectfully suggest that this tactic, which is tantamount to a Denial of Service attack on the YMAX infrastructure, will clearly place you in the crosshairs of the YMAX security department. They know where you and your MJ live!!!

Yea, this is an issue. The register fails here and using 0 won't work at all, even though you get your dial tone.

I've confirmed the register expires to 0 works. I have proxy1.losan..., domain as talk4free.com and host name as MagicJack.
Didn't setting the register expire to 0 in the past mean that you would eventually lose connection and MJ will assume that your line is dead? Could someone else confirm this? I'll start watching to see when I go offline.

On my MTA 6328-2Re ATA when I change registration expires from 3600 to 0 and Save, it doesn't even take, it still says 3600. changing it to 1 will take but no registration for me. There is no place to enter domain name or hostname.

Thinking about that now, it should have no effect. Changing the domain is simply changing the domain the box looks for...meaning your router if you have one.
So both of us are still waiting on a solution...my usb is back in...an my call quality is crappy again.

On my first successful attempt, the User Agent string was:
User Agent: MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)
But later attempts show
MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)
No more leading "User Agent: ", password remains unchanged and I can't register.

Good to hear... Someone else posted that they weren't able to get the sip creds after the update.
Whats the new agent string look like?
MJinfo is the easiest way, it still works perfectly after this update
Hi there I am new here but Have a few observations to add
MJ seems to update quite abit or it is just my connection. Any way sometimes i get the message requires an update. And if my internet connection is slow on starting up I get an error and it sits there so I close MJ and I have a old update in my documents I exe that and my MJ works and it is good.
Sometimes it will load no problem but I can't call in or out so i have to reload
My personal thughts is this thing has a mind of it's own I am so baffled by it
Very strange...

This is really strange. I had my frineds SIP info from his MJ that he barely uses and inputted into line 2 of my WRP400 router and it worked fine with registering. I have not tried to make a phone call since I did this remotely from work. He has not taken the update. I am thinking that maybe the SIP info that is being extracted might be "incorrect".
