Port your number to MJ Beta
I saw a post over at dslreports that MJ has porting in beta trial now. I've checked my account portal and just saw the beta trial offer. Who in their right mind would want to port a number to a provider that blocks exchanges and has not added any features.

Re: Port your number to MJ Beta
Well if you are dropping the service that you had the number with, and really wanted to keep your number, porting it to MJ is apparently at least an option now. You can go to NT and lose it totally, and port it to a low maintenance pre-paid cell like TracFone, but you would still have to pay something every 90 days. Some people don't want to lose their number but don't want to stay with their current carrier, so MJ is an option.sabresfan wrote:I saw a post over at dslreports that MJ has porting in beta trial now. I agree it's nice to have the option but unfortunately MJ has been going backwards even faster than in the past. If they want to block ata users I really can't blame them for that but to block exchanges and take away features that people would like to use (like do not disturb) makes no sense to me. If I personally had a phone number that I wanted to keep MJ would not be at the top of the list of places I would want to port it to. Imagine having a problem in the porting process and you have no choice but to go to MJ's chat support to get help with this problem.

Your question was, who in their right mind would. And someone with a sane mind who only calls a handful of people who all live in urban areas and have a decent computer and internet connection can feel reasonably safe in using MJ with few problems (gee everything but the sane mind part fits my description). Now if you want I'm sure I can think of other "right mind" scenarios. The guy over on DSL is porting a number that he had for 30 years. I would question, as someone did in a round about way, the "right mind" of someone doing that in a MJ beta program however.sabresfan wrote:I agree it's nice to have the option but unfortunately MJ has been going backwards even faster than in the past. But some of you people (I'm not saying you) have to stop with this nonsense that there are nothing but unhappy MJ users out there. As I have said plenty of times, if I had all the information I have now, I probably would have gone with NT. But that said, I'm 95% happy with my MJ. They have sold a TON of units. Their servers apparently have periodic overload issues. That infers that they have a decent amount of activity going on. And with their presence in WalMart, Radioshack (they will be out of business before MJ), Best Buy and others, MagicJack isn't going anywhere soon.
And for better or worse, the fact that they will "apparently" (a MJ beta could last 5 years) be able to soon advertise that you can transfer your number in, will not decrease their sales.
Good point that some people may find this useful in certain scenarios. I'm not an unhappy MJ user I've definitely gotten my money out of it. Also the other thing that people need to keep in mind is how easy is MJ going to make it to port the number out. Being that MJ does not follow the most ethical of business standards I personally would never port a valued number to them.
I have a TK6000 and have to give them high marks for making their network and product line better in the last couple of month's. Don't get me wrong they still have their problems as well but they do seem to want to satisfy their customers as best they can.
With all that now I will give MJ credit as the calls I've made now with the dongle sound much better than before. I do enjoy a good exchange of ideas and differences of opinions compared to some of the other recent threads on here.
