Magicjack_D-Link WBR 2310 incoming I cant hear caller voice

Post by skydiver »

Hello,

Just installed Magicjack and updated as specified. Running XP updated and Road Runner cable with D-Link WBR-2310 router. Everything seems to work fine for outgoing calls, Voice mail, call forwarding etc. except when a call comes in I can speak to the caller and they can hear me but I can not hear them when they talk. I have opened the UDP range from 5060 through 5070 and 80, 443 TCP and still no difference.
Spoke with several support people on web site and they both were telling me in the end after trying to fix to contact my ISP. I dont think road runner block ports (per guy that used to work for them) and I felt they were putting me off as when I asked them to specifically tell me what to ask my ISP so they could "fix" their stuff I got no reply. Anyone have any ideas as to why everything seems to work BUT incoming calls why I can not hear the callers voice?
By the way I have tried this with two different phones and with 2 different computers. Both were on windows XP and through the wireless connection through the router. I guess I could try wired but dont see this making any difference. The last person I typed with at magicjacks said another update would be available in 24-48 hours and to try that.
Anyone else run into this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First, eliminate your router by testing with one PC connected directly to cable modem. You will have to power cycle the modem for the test, and again when you reconnect the router. If no luck, and you are running a software firewall other than Windows Firewall, test with the firewall disabled. For security, don't bypass the router and disable the firewall at the same time. If still no luck, it may be a server side problem. Use Wireshark http://www.wireshark.org/ to see if any voice packets are coming in, if they are going to the right port with correct codec and packetization, and if they actually contain other than silence.

UDP ports 5060/5070 are used only for call setup (call signaling). Port 80 (http) & 443 (https) are used for registration & provisioning. After the VOIP call is set up & answered, the call's audio connection is established through UDP port 10,000-65535 (typically between 10,000 and 20,000). If you have only one-way audio then check to see if your router is blocking ports 10,000-20,000. Remove the router and hook the PC directly to the DSL/cable modem like Stewart suggested. It's likely the router is your source of one-way audio problem. Another source of problem is the MJ call server issue. A couple weeks ago when MJ was upgrading their network, one-way audio issue was common.

Are you in the Indiana, Ohio area? If so this problem with incoming calls is on Magicjack. It seems to be a prominent issue in that part of the country. They keep telling me they are having problems and will have it fixed "Soon". I've been waiting over a week now.

Yep I am in the Akron / Cleveland area with a 216 area code number.
I will have had the Mj for 1 week tomorrow with this problem from day one.
After working via email with other tech support for several days they actually (after I suggested this) offered to send me another MJ. It is on the way!
I think that is great but if this new one has the same problem then it may just be an area problem.

I have figured out that 1 in every 3 calls actually make it through were I can hear the caller.
The outgoing calls are great with no issues so far and these are the ones I pay for anyway.
One solution in the meantime is to set up for call forwarding to the regular home land line or to cell until this issue is resolved.

Did you try using a different computer on a different network?
