Why can't 411 understand the word "DAYTONA" ?

Why can't 411 understand the word "DAYTONA" ?
Let me just start by saying, it got personal! I spent close to an hour trying different variations, and inflections of the word "DAYTONA"! To which she would invariably repeat back to me the words "DAYTON", or "DELTONA". I finally got the number I was looking for, by saying "ORMOND". But, I know that the place I was looking for was in Daytona, because I can see it from my apartment (which is, guess where). What gives with that?!!! Because not everything I'm looking for is going to be found in a neighboring city, so what then? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Well congratulations. You are the only person I know who has even clicked on the 411 tab, let alone used it.
Since MagicJack requires a computer, and that the computer be on, I can only assume you were close to your computer when you used the 411 function. If I may be so bold to suggest, next time instead of spending an hour with a MagicJack added feature, use Google and get your number in about 30 seconds. Just a friendly suggestion.

Cool, my work here is done.lychy wrote: you made me smile lol (:
And not to be a complete ass (99.5% maybe), but it does make you wonder if they should include a quick common sense test before letting you buy one of these things. Seriously, an hour trying to get it to recognize Daytona? That had to be a spoof post.
I could not agree more. That would reduce the number of people frustrated by MJ by 2/3.but it does make you wonder if they should include a quick common sense test before letting you buy one of these things.
But, even in those old days with my AT&Tea land line ( former BellSouth former Souther Bell) I tried to avoid 411. Our urban sprawl area is subdivided into tens of "cities" , usually winding like spaghetti through the concrete desert landscape with some disjunct areas in between. It is often hard to tell in which"city " a certain person/business is located and the fact that you see it from the window does not mean much either. But 411, they always wanted to have the "city" . A metro area was not good enough, neither was the county. Talking common sense...

Not necessarily... with apologies to the original poster, those of us with OCD leanings can get a little weird sometimes. I just wasted a day-and-a-half trying to get Samsung Kies to recognize my Galaxy Tab and I still haven't gotten it.Seriously, an hour trying to get it to recognize Daytona? That had to be a spoof post.
Just to make my point, look how much bandwidth has been devoted to the original thread.

A common sense test for a lot of things would be more than appropriate!!nailgunner wrote:Cool, my work here is done.lychy wrote: you made me smile lol (:

I know I'm going completely off the reservation here, but these days I no longer suffer fools gladly, if I ever did. The other day some kids were in front of the local grocery store with a petition to save the whales.Global Warming anyone????????????
I went off on them and said, "WHALES KILL BABY SEALS! WHAT HAVE YOU GOT AGAINST DEFENSELESS BABY SEALS? I THINK THEY'RE THE ONES YOU SHOULD BE PROTECTING!"
With everything that's in the news, I need to up the dosage on my meds. <sigh>
EDIT: I realized my rant has nothing to do with the original thread nor Joe's Global Warming comment. It was really a broader comment on the lack of critical thinking being expressed these days in the media and elsewhere. I'm going back to bed now and getting back up on the right side this time.

Trust me I like to "tweak" whenever I can too.
Just the other day I was on hold for a local waste management. All I kept hearing was green this green that. I had to go into my "it's the sun stupid" about Global Warming.
Once I got an email from my local bank about what to do on Earth day!!! Man oh man did I fire back an email telling then to concentrate on banking and reducing fees since they are a BANK and not AL GORE. I even told them I planned on leaving my car running all day and all my lights on too.. So many sheep...........Not enough hearders ( with shears)
So stay on that side of the bed as MAYBE someone MIGHT learn something and actually use some common sense. Lord knows this world needs it.
By the way so far so good with the Hawkings, thank you again for your generosity.

Now, that's funny. I think I'll do the same thing as soon as I finish my polar bear sandwich.I even told them I planned on leaving my car running all day and all my lights on too..
Okay, back on topic... has anyone fired up their Magic Jack and tried dialing 411 to look for a business number in Daytona? I've used up all my entertainment minutes for the day, so I"ll probably try it tomorrow to see what happens.
No. I think he was serious.
Hello again, from the original poster of this thread. Wow! It's been awhile. I have since come to realize what the rest of you have. Tragic-Crack has it's issues. I posted that earlier question way back when I was sort of expecting it to, you know, work! However, having had it for quite some time now......yeah. I still love the Jack, but have become a little more realistic in my expectations from it. As for the taking a whole hour off my lifespan, trying to get it to recognise the word Daytona? Well. I just didn't think it was too much to ask! I also have to admit to having something in common with Darkman90808. I have five types of O.C.D. And as anyone with it can attest to, once it gets personal, forget it! I'll clear my callendar for the day, if I have to, but this thing IS going to WORK!!! What can I say? It got personal.
In conclusion, I notice that no one has posted an answer, or any kind of fix, or even a theory on this issue yet, so I get from that, that this issue is probably not going to get fixed, any time soon. Oh well. It still saves me a bundle when my wife gets on with her Mother in TN, and talks for four hours at a whack! LOL Thanks for even noticing the thread. You guys were actually kind of amusing. Cheers. Long live the jack.
