PC Wont Start w/ MJ Plugged (Win 7)

My folks back home (far away land!) were using MJ on a XP pc with no trbl.

Recently they got a new laptop running Win 7.

Now, when they power up the PC with MJ plugged in, it wont boot, juts goes to blinking cursor (as if trying to boot from USB device/CD type situation?)

When MJ is removed and power up, it boots up fine and after MJ is plugged in, MJ wont start smoothly either. An error message box comes and when say 'restart' in that box (or retry) then it will start fine and function fine.

Why is this?
Do I have to specifically run the MJ update meant for win 7 (http://www.magicjack.com/5/customerCare_windows7.asp) manually? (is it meant for MJs used on an XP before?)

I did not ask them to try it yet for I m v pessimistic about MJ tech support stuff!!

Any info is appreciated.

Have them make sure boot from USB in the CMOS ( BIOS) is NOT enabled.... Not sure why that setting would change if all they did was update to 7 but can't hurt to check..

But its brand new PC and cant blv anything out of ordinary in BIOS.
I m kinda sure its the MJ and it may need some update.
But I do not know how 'old' or how valid that MJ win 7 update.

Since it is a brand new PC I bet dollars to donuts the boot from USB is enabled in the BIOS... I have seen 5 or 6 new ones come that way, even new mother boards default to enabled. So I stand by orig answer.. Check it and see.

There is nothing about windows7 that makes it less friendly than XP with MJ. A few months ago over a few days I moved my device back and forth between the 2 systems with no noticeable difference.

Boot order is fine, HDD 1st.

It has nothing to do with "boot order" You need to look in the BIOS for boot from USB. It is in a different area of the BIOS than the boot order..
So dig around in the BIOS some more for the boot from USB setting..

Just as a FYI I have my boot order as 1st= Floppy drive, 2nd= cd/dvd drive and third HDD. This way if I need to use a recovery disc ( floppy or cd) it will be accessed prior to the HD. This has ZERO impact on the MJ dongle by the way...

I knew someone would say something about the floppy
I rarely use it but every now and then it comes in handy for an older image program I still use ( along with Acronis) and it only has a floppy for an emergency boot disk. Acronis uses a CD for that.

The PC concerned starts up fine with a USB thumb drive plugged in.

Yes because a thumb drive is not a MJ. The MJ is not a bootable device. Maybe some motherboards compensate when a MJ is plugged in and the boot from USB is enabled.
