Start Up Issue

I plug magicjack into my USB port and up it comes. It will not download my contacts, it tells me I have to sign in.

It also tells me I have to register and when clicking on a link, up comes a red beta page.

The last attempt told me the file could not load, the system was using it elsewhere. I reboted and nothing corrected.

Try a different USB port, one in the rear of the PC and do NOT use the short extension cord which came with the MJ as it may cause weird problems.
Also if you can try your MJ on another PC to see if the problem follows your MJ dongle or stays with your PC. If it follows the dongle maybe yours is bad and you need to get a replacement. If your dongle works on another PC then there is something on YOUR PC causing the MJ not to work. It could be software OR hardware.

NW of Allentown.

Magic Jack is now working on my laptop. I am now worried about the desk top because it is a lot easier to use.

My desk top is still pretty new, Windows 7, Pro 64 bit. I hope I do not have reinstall a back up.

Used to go to Trexler park all the time 10 or so years ago. Havent been there since, miss it. Even the covered bridges in your area are nice.
Well obviously there is something on your deskop the MJ does not like. I would start by running the MJ removal program. You can find it on the MJ web page via a search. Then re-install the MJ BUT make sure you have only your firewall running. Shut everything else down, including your AntiVirus program. If it still doesnt work after all this then you are going to have to stop all running programs one by one to see if any of them is causing your problem. Of course if it is a hardware problem it will be much harder to figure out.

What drives me crazy is this has happened on and off several times. Usually just re-boot works.

I think it may be my external USB ports. I get an occasional error message that the software cannot identify the item in a USB port, even when it is empty.

BTW in your area was the Lehigh and New England Railroad, which went out of business in 1961. It has always been my favorite since I moved into Pa in 1986. If I recall locomotive rotary table is still at the old freight yard.

2 things to try. Get a POWERED usb hub, and/or go into device manager and then the USB section. Remove ALL entires ( your mouse last) DO NOT reboot if it asks you too. When all are gone then reboot and all the USB drivers will be reinstalled. I had to do this once when I had weird USB thumb drive stuff happen

One more question, just in case I need it.

Is there now un-install software on magic jack site? On this website it is listed as manual do it yourself. Those postings are a few years old.

OK, I found a link on the FAQ forum

I forget what the old train yard is now. For a while it was one of the large re-cycle/trash companies.

If you get into the yard, there is a platform with a wooden overhead roof for passenger traffic, which the Lehigh and New England lost during the early years of the depression.

There also was a small "Oil Building", which had lot of brass hand worked pumps, which pump up oil from the underground storage. Different parts of different locomotives used many different oils, so there was quite a few.

One Sunday my Ex-Brother In Law and I were on that property circa 1995/96 because he worked there. I had a wonderful time.
