Hello to all MJ users, well I just finished a small MJ project and the results are great!
First I pulled out an old compaq ipaq c500(celeron 500mhz with 384ghz ram)desktop, took out the hard drive and replaced it with a much more energy efficient 4gb CF card using an IDE to CF adapter that I found on ebay. Next I loaded windows flp with sp2 OS(a watered down version of xp similar to xpe),plugged in my MJ and now I have a super quiet and energy efficient pc dedicated to my MJ that has run non stop for about two weeks and is plugged directly to my router via cat5 cable, the best part is that it uses no monitor once you have it set up. I use remote desktop on my main pc to check on the status of the pc and can even re-start the pc from my computer if necesary.
My setup is only good for running MJ and not much else(like a thin client)due to the slow precessor and small amount of ram,but it works great for MJ.You could use a 2gb(cheaper) to load win flp but I had a 4gb laying around so thats what I used, the smaller the pc the better, the ipaq I have already uses small amount of electricity and has no fans for the cpu or the case it uses the 1 fan for the power supply only.
help! I am running out of USB ports!!!!!!!!
Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a phone call... if you're unable to speak?

It works great for me.
Why bother when you have any old computer sitting around? Plus why break Magicjack's TOS. Also $30 is expensive for that crap... You can get a spa-2102 cheap off ebay or find people who had vonage or sunrocket before.
Peace

I have tought of using ATA but did not want to risk loosing my MJ service by breaking TOS,also this pc was just sitting in my garage collecting dust and with this mod to the hard drive it is very quiet and runs cool due to not having any moving parts to generate heat or noise + the adapter was very cheap here is a link that shows the process that I used on my pc.
You can install FLP on a 1gb(2gb recomended) cf card I just used a 4GB because I already had it,I still had more than half left over on a full install of FLP.The good thing about FLP is that it gives you a few install options one being less than 1gb to save on disk space,I did a search on ebay and found a 2gb CF card with a buy it now price of $13.00 icludes shipping!+ the price of the adapter which is very cheap. All you have to do prior to installing FLP is format the CF card using NTFS(better to do this on the actual pc you are installing the CF on) to avoid any problems detecting your CF card as a regular HD.

I don't understand how this works. Don't you have to plug the MJ into a USB? CAn you use multiple units on the same network?
This is a replacement for MJ, not a way to connect it. You can use it with your MJ account (against the TOS), or with the account of another provider (may be against their TOS). You cannot use multiple units with the same MJ account, nor can you use an ATA and an MJ on the same account at the same time. If you own several MJs, you can set up an ATA to replace each one. If you have enough ports on your switch or router, enough bandwidth, and enough accounts (with the same or different providers), you can use as many units as you like on your network. Many popular ATAs have two FXS ports (two 'phone lines'), which would cut the number of units and router ports in half. However, you still need an account for each line, and need sufficient bandwidth (about 100 kbps up and down) for each line used simultaneously.

Plug this into ethernet/LAN port on my router and plug phone into other end, but how does this device "use my MJ" account for calls?

@curiousgeorge (I know it has been a few months since you first posted this):
Good ingenuity.
Question: did you consider using the USB port on the Ipaq? Can the Ipaq boot from USB (in BIOS)? Can Windoze FLP support booting itself from USB Flash (trickier than CF b/c CF setup you have is recognized as a hard drive)?
Just curious (george ), because it would be an even cheaper solution -- CF is becoming much more rare (= a bit more expensive) than USB Flash Drive (USB Flash = $15 for 4GB w/ free shipping; CF = $40+ for 4GB).
I know USB Flash access (if the ports are v1.1 instead of 2.0) might be slow, but once the OS loads, it doesn't really have an effect on MJ.

Anyway, good info.
I don't know where you are looking at. But i got an 8GB CF card last week for my friends broken iPod mini for only 12 bucks from this random site. AND had free shipping. To add, the regular price was $24 on it. in $40 you can prolly get one of them HIGH SPEED ones that people with SLR cameras like to have.
Peace

Kumar: I have read too many bad things about A-Data; so no I am not interested in that brand.
Also, I am talking 133x or 266x only. I am more than a little familiar with the Newegg site

Hello testing 123 & kumar ,I have not been on the forum for a long time now but I do believe the ipaq can be booted with usb as far as win flp being bootable not to sure, but I will try it and see if it is possible, but the adapter + the cf card are actually very cheap combo if bought on fleabay and will work on most old pc's that you might have laying around(smaller the better)I am still using my setup with no problem and it runs silent and very energy efficient.peace out!
