Answering magicJack call routed through GrandCentral
First post here. . .
On my new magicJack I'm having problems answering calls routed through GrandCentral (GC). In the past (before magicJack, calls routed through GC were answered by pressing "1."
Since the installation of magicJack, calls routed through GC are disconnected when pressing "1." Should I be answering my calls differently?
Cheers! --Erik

Re: Answering magicJack call routed through GrandCentral
Does you MJ go straight to voicemail when someone calls your MJ number? You might want to check it by calling your MJ number... I have GC routed to MJ and it is working perfect, I also have call screening off in GC.gcmj wrote:First post here. . .

gooney: My preference is to have GC take messages if I can not answer my calls personally. Therefore, I'm not sure that I need magicJack's Voice Mail to begin with. Is there a way to turn magicJack's VM off? Maybe that'll keep calls from being disconnected when I answer them with a "1" on my telephone. (All my calls are routed to magicJack from GC.)
FYI: I am answering calls on a physical telephone plugged into my magicJack connection.
Thanks for more information. --Erik

Sorry to tell you this but there is no function to turn off MJ voicemail at the moment... I would love to turn it off.gcmj wrote:gooney: My preference is to have GC take messages if I can not answer my calls personally. Re: Answering magicJack call routed through GrandCentral
We have Grand Central and it's working as normal -- my husband says he can't understand the caller announce (it's garbled) but after he presses "1" the call connects as usual. So, I'm not sure why it's disconnecting you. Unless your connection is poor (have you run magicfix?) and somehow the tone that is transmitted when you press "1" is distorted and GC can't recognize it.gcmj wrote:On my new magicJack I'm having problems answering calls routed through GrandCentral (GC). Here is my setup with the use of MJ and GC:
1. When I am away from my MJ phone, it is set to Call Forward to my GC number.
2. Upon receipt of the forwarded call, GC sends both an email message with the caller's message, and a SMS text message to my T-Mobile cell phone.
3. I have set up my GC number as one of my 5 FAVs so all calls between my cell and GC are FREE , and I also have unlimited text messages on my MyFAVs plan.
4. The SMS text message tells me who called, the time they called, and their phone number if they are in my GC address book.
5. If GC says it is an unknown caller, it says to call the GC number to get the message. Since I can call GC for FREE anytime, I just call GC and get the message.
I have given out my MJ number to all my family, friends, tenants as a way to contact me thus avoiding their calling my cell phone and eating up my anytime minutes. Many of these same people do not have T-Mobile cell phones. I also get FREE T-mobile to T-mobile calls as well, but other than my FAVS, I don't know who has T-Mobile service, so calling my MJ is always the first choice. I just always use GC as my primary message center.
If I know I will be away from my MJ phone for awhile, I turn on Call Forwarding (which did not work for the longest time, so the upgrade must have fixed it) and GC then takes all the calls. Once I see who it is, I can usually determine its urgency and 9 out of 10 times, I can make the call back later with the MJ or, if available, another land line phone near by. With this approach, I have not exceeded my T-Mobile plan minutes of 700. I still have my land line phone connection which I eventually hope to eliminate. Power outages do not happen very often, and when they do, it is typically less than 30 minutes. I live in Gulfport, MS so hurricanes are the true menace to communications, and typically, phone service is always questionable, even cell service.
I hope my MJ and GC continue to work great together for a long time. I have finally reached a satisfactory operational mode, and I hope it stays that way.
Happy MJ user (at this moment)!

Why are you not using GC as its intended? Maybe I understand incorrectly but...Roozie wrote:I have given out my MJ number to all my family, friends, tenants as a way to contact me thus avoiding their calling my cell phone and eating up my anytime minutes.
You should consider just giving out and using your GC number to everyone as the primary contact number and configuring GC to send the CID of your GC number instead of the person calling? If you did, ALL your incoming calls through GC would be FREE as they would always show the CID of GC which is one of your faves!

Then just turn off MJ forwarding completely, and make your MJ number one of your 6 GC phones that ring when you get a GC call. People will eventually realize that if they choose to call your MJ number instead of your GC number they may not get you....

Thanks,

Haven't made time to look over the new GrandCentral
but I'm hoping you can now turn off voicemail.
I know you can switch off the 'press one to accept call'
function.
