Using One Phone Number on the Plus and Old Dongle

I'm thinking about getting a magicJack Plus and would appreciate comments from anyone who has actually tried the following:

According to mj chat, I can use my current magicJack phone number on the new Plus. She also said I can unplug the Plus from the router and plug my old dongle into the computer and it will work again with the same number. In other words, I can take the old dongle with me as a 'travel' phone.

By the way, as of this afternoon, chat didn't have any information about other ways to order the Plus (website, account, etc) or any special pricing for current customers.

hi you can use both at the same time if u wanted to as long as the the old MJ has time on it .

it give u 2 line out for calling and one number calls both i called out on both at the same time and it worked

but if you want to use the old one when your travel you cant call the mj+ if they both have the same number so u will have to get a new number for the old one

Thanks for the quick answer, Scotty.

If I unplug the Plus at home, and use the old dongle when I travel, I don't understand why it wouldn't work, unless the phone number is restricted to my IP.

you don't need to unplug the mjp to use the old mj both will work at the same time at lest at home i have yet to try it from a friend house but have a feeling it will work as both have there outgoing service if u had the 5 year plan on the old mj that cant be transfer that to the mjp i wold just get a new number for the old one and then u can call home to the mjp

Sorry, Scotty- I wasn't clear.

I don't want the 'travel' mj to call home, I would use it just to make and receive calls.

And yes- I still have a few years on the 'old' mj.

You don't necessarily have to have two accounts, and technically you don't "loose" the money on the old device, in any event, if done correctly.

The Plus can be set up under the same account with your old MJ with the same number and both devices will remain active. Or you can set up the Plus with a new account and a new number and give your old MJ to granny or sonny at college, and both devices will remain active. But unless you set it up wrong or tell them to deactivate the regular MJ, you won't lose a second of your paid time.

That obviously may not be a great solution for most, but with 2 totally different service pricing plans for the devices, it's probably necessary.

It's clear if you ask and set it up correctly.

Be very specific. Tell them that you currently own a regular MJ with 4 years left. You were thinking of buying a Plus. Can you keep the same number on both devices? Will the regular MJ work for 4 years and will the Plus work for 1 year? Unless they have changed their policy in the last few days, which is always possible, the answers will be yes.

Exactly. they have different pricing plans. Almost has to be that way. You get what you paid for, and don't lose it, there just isn't any crossover. They will expire at different times.

I did just chat with them again and confirmed it. It isn't easy sometimes. I can post the chat if someone is really that interested and bored.

No problem. It's always good to get a policy update check from these guys from time to time.

I had to tell this one twice that she was answering questions I didn't ask. And they were straightforward questions, I thought. One was when I asked if I bought the Plus, about keeping both on the same account with the same number. She came back with what the Plus cost and how to order it. It's no wonder that sometimes people leave them confused.

Ya... they are reading from a script... or at least copying and pasting from one. During my chat about subscription sharing they told me what it costs to order (regular shipping, rush shipping).
