Really freaked Out PLease someone

Post by suckercomp »

Working env
Windows XP SP2 on three Computer.

I have been able to run MJ on two computers and the third one that I need the most is unable to initialize MJ.
When I plug it in , I see the light in MJ and my computer keeps busy , can't do much.
Ran magicfix and keep sitting on the checking configuration.
Spent hours with live support they conclude not enough power in my USB. Strange because I have
Gateway 4520Z which only has USB ports (4 in total) and I have tried all.
I also went into service and started cancelling service as I feel something is blocking the initialization with no result.
Then I twicked to check if computer even recogonizes MJ, so I downloaded upgrade.exe from their site. I run it and same issue cannot use my computer as soon as I take MJ off the USB , I can work with my computer. But when I run upgrade.exe and unplug , the computer actually asks for plugging the MJ back with an error.

I wated a lot of time. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Well if it is the lack of power in the USB ports you need to go out and get a power USB hub. Or you could just use the other 2 computers for teh magicjack.

Gatway computers and some older Dell computers have under rated power supplies. check what type of cards you have installed in system. change power supply to a 400 watt. I bet you it has a 250 watt. good luck

Thats not worth the time and money... just go out and get a powered USB hub that you plug in. The comptuer manufactures sometime make the PSU proprioty which makes it a pain in the ass to find a new one. Do not go around plugging random powersupplys in a computer....

I think I got you all getting in the wrong direction.
The solution of power supply was given by the live support as they got frustrated spending time to debug.
I am not sure , how could power in the USB would be an issue.
I say that as I have used so many devices with this laptop and none have ever given me so much pain.
Plus its not a very old laptop - Just 1.5 years old.
All it has USB ports , no conventional pin ports. So I am wondering what's going on. I don't believe power in USB is an issue or else I would have had so many issue with the USB devices I have ever used on this machine.

Any installed programs like Roxio or Nero??? Strange not to get an install on all three computers. Check any programs you may have that are installed on all three computers. If not to much of a hassle I would probablt try a frsh install on 1 computer and try immediately after that. (I know thats a pain but might be a last resort. If the Jack installed then it would have to be a program compatibility issue)

I have only one computer that's not working with magicjack and not all three.
BTW - You will be shocked and amazed that the two that are working have Nero on them. Whereas the third one does not have
Nero. I have done everything with the third , its a Gateway Laptop.
Ok here is another trick I tried I went and copied the mjusbsp folder from C:\Documents and Settings\---User--\Application Data and still something prevents it to start.

Nero, I believe, only causes problems when installing it for the first time (registring a new MJ). Once the registration is complete then MJ can be used with Nero installed.

I have Nero on the computer MJ is on now and it works fine, it is also an old P4 1.5 with 768 meg of ram, using a 2.0 usb pci card I installed years ago. I had it in my Newer Vista machine first and it has Roxio and I had no problems here either, oh and the Vista machine has SP1 installed. I went through the registration with no issues. My only issue is the yellow dot on the 911 section saying it is waiting to be acjknowleged, however when I go to my magicjack.com the dot is green. Hope I didn't jinx myself about the Nero and Roxio thing

if its a older gateway I have seen the problems with capacitors for the cpu cause things like usb sockets not to work.. and weird issues with the pc in general. if it was manufactured from 2001-2003
just a note..

if the magic jack works on anouther pc then you can rule out the mj .. grab a copy of sidux.com or kanotix.com and boot the pc with that (make sure you know how to burn a iso and boot from cdrom mode in bios)

beyond that pop in your majicjack after successfully booting into one of these mentioned cd bootable linux cds and in root shell do a lspci to see if you have any thing usb working then do a lsusb

maybe post your results here..
the command
dmsg tail

command might give you some info also..
if the port is failing it will give some hints to that..

Linux rocks for pretty much everything to do with analyzing your hardware.

If you think something is not right 90% of the time its just microsoft lol but with the linux bootable cd you can be sure! and rule out all that..

Heck with the Linux bootable you can plug in a phone and find a program that allows you to change your output audio to the majic jack device and see if you hear anything I have used skype on my majic jack works ok.. Just loaded skype and set my input and output to use the majic jack then dialed call then picked up receiver on my cordless phone and yammered my brains out

Well, the first obvious question would be whether either of the magicjack drives show up when you plug it in. If so, you probably just have autorun disabled on that PC. If not, Windows probably has some bad settings for the one of the MagicJack USB devices from the first time you plugged it in. Cleaning that up can be tricky.
