I am trying to help my parents who live outside of the US. They have both MagicJack and just got MagicJack Plus. Both worked fine on their old Windows XP computer but wont work on their new HP Windows 7 computer. Does anyone know of any issues with MagicJack or MagicJack Plus running on Windows 7 and if there is some fix for the problem. Here is a brief description of their MagicJack problem via an email my mother sent me:

Dear Hans
Like the other two magicjacks, the magicjack plus stopped working yesterday. All 3 of them worked for 3 days on the new pc and then stopped. I have had live chats with several of their reps., but none of them can pinpoint the problem. The message I get when I turn on the pc is "please sign in to see contacts". This is followed by "downloading contacts, please wait". Thirdly, the message is "your contacts were not downloaded".
There is a menu. When I click on the menu, there are a few options which are all highlighted, except the "contacts" option. On the old pc, "contacts" was highlighted, and I was able to enter the names, e-mail address and phone mumber of contacts. With Windows 7, I am not able to do that. When I click on options, nothing happens, because it is not highlighted.
I hope I have made myself clear. All 3 magicjacks worked perfectly on the old pc with windows xp. I believe there is something in Windows 7 blocking magicjack from functioning properly. Is it a security issue, I don't know?
That leaves us without magicjack, because the old pc is no longer working, and we are unhappy about that. Windows 7 is great, it works perfectly well but not the MagicJack on Windows 7. Probably if we were in the States, we would return it for another one.

Any help anyone could provide to help fix this MagicJack/Windows 7 issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hans

win 7
Plug the plus directly into your router. If it still doesnot work your internet provider is blocking it. Win 7 works great with it. check virus software or firewall.

Windows 7 and Magic Jack blocked?
Hello, I saw your post. I had no problem with Magic Jack using XP or Windows 7. I remember doing something like right clicking on the Magic Jack folder in Windows itself and selecting "run as administrator" but It sounds to me like a Router is blocking it. Check the Router's Web page in those forums too. I had that very thing happen in old XP when I first got Magic Jack. All the numbers on the MJ application show - 000-000-0000 and the contacts list failed to load, it hung up and never worked. I discovered in my router ACTION-TEC, that you had to click the "allow" outgoing next to the Yahoo Messenger listing in the SECURITY area of my router/Firewall. You get into that by typing 192.168.0.??? into the Browser window of course. The actual (192.168.000) number varies from model to model. In there is where the solution could be. Once I had Yahoo messenger or the Messenger listing ok'd for outgoing, it worked fine. Magic Jack must use those same ports in that range to send out calls. Since this is in Canada, Maybe someone up there has had similar things happen? Still love Magic Jack here and am actually using it in LINUX in a Virtual Window in XP OS. Works fine there too. Good luck.
I just had this problem with my magicjack after having used it on an XP machine for 2 years and now plugged it into my new computer with Windows 7. Magicjack installs and allows me to send and receive calls but would not download my contacts.
When I first plugged it in I went to windows firewall and allowed the program - and then MJ downloaded my contacts so I thought that was it.
No, after I rebooted the computer a couple days later, my contacts would not download again.
How I solved the problem: Knowing it worked fine with my XP machine, I right clicked on the program name and chose Properties (click All Programs, right click on Magicjack, choose Properties). There, I told it to run magicjack in XP service pack 3 mode.
Voila! contacts now download.
HTH someone else with the problem.
