Phone says "Check TEL line"

Hello, I need help with my Magic Jack - my phone says "Check TEL line" and there's no dial, and nothing has happened to the phone line - it's plugged in. I've unplugged and waited a few minutes, then plugged the magic jack, and am not getting anywhere with this. Please help.
