Does magic jack have spyware?

Post by stillsearching »

I remember first hearing of MJ awhile ago and apparently concerns over spyware being a major issue which steered me away for awhile. With MJ+ this obviously shouldn't be an issue if it's not on the PC, but some features are lost running it that way.

Is there a definitive answer about whether MJ spies on you, and what exactly it spies over? I mean it obviously has adware (or flashes those banners on it) although i've never seen a context sensitive one in relation to what im browsing... but that was a friends dedicated MJ PC so it gets almost no web use so that's not conclusive. Most of the ads seem to be for MJ itself actually.

I'm aware the TOS gives them right to spy on darn near anything but that could just be either legal boilerplate or sloppiness. Ie they reserved all rights to be safe even if they arent really using them yet.

On the other hand, since some other practices seemed to border on the abusive, it probably isnt hard to insert spyware into things either. :( Has anyone uncovered evidence of this?
