I can hear the other party but they are unable to hear me

Post by Calgary »

Hello!

I am experiencing a new issue with the original MagicJack which I have been using for over a year.

It seems that now for every call I either make or receive, I can hear the other party however they are unable to hear me at all.

The problem is present when using either the headset or handset.

In checking over this board for potential solutions, I did find a couple of similar issues however I have reviewed all of the following without any success:

- Volume Levels are all on
- Correct option of either handset or headset is checked
- Sound Devices all functional
- Ethernet adaptor is working

We use Google Voice with this computer as well and it is working fine so my suspicion is perhaps one of the MJ firmware updates may be a culprit
although I am now just guessing.

We only use this for long distance calls, so actually have not used this for the last couple of months when everything worked fine. There has
been no new hardware/software installed to my knowledge and the setup has remained constant.

MJ support has told me that their Technical Engineers will look into it, which probably means I will never hear from them again so I am hoping
someone here may be able to point me in the right direction for where else to look.

Thanks in advance!

After a week of not hearing anything back from MJ Technical Support, I asked a friend with a similar hardware configuration for assistance.

We isolated the problem to be occurring only when MJ was being used with my wireless router (D-Link model DIR-655)

It seemed that although no router settings had changed on my end, MJ was now no longer 'playing nice' with the router.

We tried the port forward, which in reading this forum, seems to solve a number of similar issues (not mine though) but after a few settings changes we finally got things to work.

By default there is a check in the SIP box, by simply un-checking this functionality & resetting the router, my voice could finally be heard!

I'm not sure why this mysteriously stopped working as it had always functioned properly with the existing settings (this box had always been checked) but nonetheless, once unchecked everything is now working correctly.

I guess stuff like this is what puts the 'magic' in Magicjack.

Not sure if everyone is already aware of this setting but for those who are not, hopefully the above may be helpful to others who experience the same issue.
