Number Transfer

Post by Kbeck »

Got my Magic Jack and installed it. Went perfectly. Did what it said it would do. Set it up for outbound and incoming calls also. Decided to use my old phone number which I have had for 40 years. Looked on my account and it said that my number transfer was pending. I left it on over night thinking it would just take a few minutes to transfer my old number to Magic Jake. It did not do that. Finally I read my emails and got a conformation saying it would take 10 working days to transfer my old number from AT&T to Magic Jack. It should say this on the instructions that are included.
Also, the web site for support of Magic Jack sends you to a "expert" who wants $38.00 to tell you what the problem is. I do not think so. If I had not seen where it took 10 working days, I would be taking it back right now. I will wait that long and if it does not work, I will take it back. It does call out and the people I call say it sounds good, and it sounds good on my end. If the incoming calls work, it will be outstanding. If not, it will not be worth a dime.
Thanks for the info

The porting procedure usually doesn't take the full 10 days. You can call att's automated system and it will give you the date of any pending orders. It will be a disconnect order. If you have internet(dsl) thru att along with your landline then they will disconnect that too. I received an email when my port was complete. It still took a couple hours before I started receiving calls through the magic jack. Don't be surprised if that happens. Give it a little bit before you contact support. That will just give you an unwanted headache.
