Help new magic jack plus

Post by jackinjim »

I have used MJ for a few years. My subscription is up soon and I received the "renew" message today. My son just gave me a magic jack plus for Christmas. Do I have to cancel my current device and connection. Can I just plug the new mj plus and use them together?

Help.

You cant transfer any remaining time on your Orig MJ to the Plus. So... You can choose a new number for the Plus and use it as a second line ( you can use your Orig AND the Plus at the same time on the same PC as long as the Plus is in your Router) OR you can choose the same number as your Orig. MJ and use them at the same time. Of course one will expire at a different time than the other.

I'm still lost. I don't want two lines. I simply want to plug the new mj plus into an outlet and using wifi in my house connect a phone to the new mj. What then do i do with the old mj that is connected to my computer? I want to keep the same number and don't need two subscriptions. What about the screen popup that tells me who called and my contact list? Will they still work?

Bottom line my computer is in my lower level. I want the new mj plus to let me answer upstairs. Or do I just use the new mj and throw the old computer connected mj away?

The old mj will stay functional until the registration runs out. You can always change the number on that one and give it to someone who can use it.

The new mj plus has to be plugged into a computer to register it. When you do that just put you original mj phone number into it and activate it with that(on the registration screen). Once the new mj plus is registered you can plug it directly into the router. There is no wireless feature on the mj plus.

Ultimately the answer to your question is no...you do not have to cancel the old mj. When the registration runs out you can toss it. Until that happens the old and the new will have the same number associated with them and you can use them both if you'd like.

Once you plug the mj plus into your router you will no longer be able to use any of the features on your computer. i.e. the softphone(unless you keep the old mj plugged into the usb port).
