insall troubles...
i am running xp with SP2.
the first time i tried to install MJ it said the install was successful, but there was no folder, icon, anything where i could start the MJ program. i rebooted and still had the same problem. i tried unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging into a different usb port like the MJ box suggests, but to no avail. there was no way i could uninstall it either, because there was no flder with an uninstall package and it did not show up in my add/remove programs list, so i did a system restore to before it was installed. after system was restored, i tried to install it again and i was successful.
i used MJ for a week with no problems, then had some issues with firefox, nero, dvd shrink, etc freezing up and had to do a system restore again(i don't believe the freezing problems are related to MJ, for the record, but something else i had going on). after the system restore i had no MJ, cuz i restored to before my MJ install. now i cannot get it to install again!
everytime i try to install it, it says it was successfully installed, but no icon, no folder in my program files, no anything. then i have to do more system restores and it's getting old. i have tried plugging into multiple usb ports, i have tried plugging it in directly to the usb port, i ahve tried using the extension usb cord that comes with MJ (which is how i got it to work initially).
so can anyone shed some light on this for me? what is going on here?

Can't open--frezes
I too have window xp sp2. I have a icon on my desktop but can not open. If I start a computer with the MJ plugged in, nothing opens. If I start a computer without MJ then plug in MJ, everything froze. It says my computer is not compatible to install but I have installed several other softwares. I am very frustrated.Does anyone has other idea to install and open the MJ?
What kind of security software and router/firewall are you guys using.
Have you checked to see if any of your security software is blocking MagicJack?
The system freezing up may be some of the software you have installed. MJ does not play well with Nero and I don't think it likes Foxfire either. If you call tech support the first thing they will have you do is uninstall Nero and then configure IE as your browser.
I have used Nero with MagicJack successfully but I did not have any of the Nero Virtual drives installed and I think that is one area that Nero and MJ start butting heads. As to why IE as apposed to Firefox I don't know but that should be easy enough to make IE the default for testing purposes.

mcaffee security, windows firewall, avg anti-spyware. i installed magic jack once and ran it for a week with no problems so i don't think it's being blocked by any of these, but there is no icon to open the program after it is supposedly "successfully installed" so i can't even try to open MJ.
where are MJ files stored on my computer? how do i uninstall MJ so i can try reinstalling it? doing a system restore takes forever vs just rebooting.

MetalMan,
If you are using XP this is the location, mjusbsp and the program that the shortcut would execute is MagicJackLoader.exe
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJackLoader.exe"
If you are using Vista search for "mjusbsp" folder. 99% of the MJ package exist in that folder. If you delete the folder it should try to rebuild it. But if you were running and now nothing I would be suspicious of the MJ device and the 6" cable. Have you tried it without the cable?
PS - it just dawned on me that if you had been running it for a week what happened to that Icon it puts on the desktop?

i had to restore the computer because some of my programs were freezing up. one of my roommates downloaded myspace IM and i was having all sorts of problems after that, and decided to restore, and i restored to a date before i had the MJ installed, therefore "undoing" my installation.
everything else on my computer is fine now, no freezing of any programs. i ran firefox, nero, dvd shrink, and many more the entire week i had MJ installed and working with no problems, as soon as the myspace IM was installed, that's when the problems began. so i am sure i have fixed the problem with the freezing.
now i am trying to get MJ installed again, but i cannot get it to work! i have tried installing it with and without the extension cable with the same result.

Freezing MJ
I do not have firefox, nero and others. I only have a McAfee with Lavasoft Ad-ware. I disabled McAfee to install then I reactivated Now it freezes everything and can not use the computer at all. So MJ is unplugged at this time.

Does MagicJack work if you leave McAfee turned off?

magic jack vs. McAfee
That's how I downloaded the magicjack. I was once infected with the virus so I do not turned off McAfee. Guwhee
