When I am staying at a hotel overseas, can I use Magic Jack plugged into my laptop when I am connected to the Internet via the hotel wi-fi?[/code]

Yes you can, BUT, the quality of the call will depend on the quality and strength of the Wi-Fi signal as well as the available bandwith. If many users are online downloading or uploading? You would be better off using a VERY long string and 2 cans..

I've never gone overseas but here in the states MJ works great on most hotel/motel wi-fi systems.

MJ works connected to Wi-Fi when i was in the Philippines and S.Korea.

I sure appreciate all your replies, especially the one from RobQ since I'm leaving for the Philippines in May.
I'm now in the market for Magic Jack. Folks tell me to buy from a store (Walmart?) for best results if it doesn't work.

I dont know if Costco carries the MJ in the usa... I know they have a great return policy though

As long as their firewall doesn't provent you from doing so. I travel internationally and also take my Magic Jack along with me. Last winter when I was in Nicaragua I had issues getting everything to work. The tech support at Magic Jack were the people who helped me through all of it ... I gave the tech guy who serviced the hotel's system $10 to help me through it all .. we were both happy!

And it worked for me in Italy ... in an apartment with wi-fi, on a front door step of a restaurant and also at an internet cafe, etc.
