Does anyone use MJ with Clearwire?

I bought a few extra MJ's for gifts. My father and girlfriend both use clearwire, I know its only 1.5 mbps. I do have the original Mj's prior to the new hardware release which I understand work better with slower connections.

What is clear wire?

As far as speed you didn't mention whether the 1.5mps is up or down. I have not measured the new style MJs yet (need to do that) but the old only require about 80 kbps of bandwidth. so 1.5 mbps should be a cake walk.

Their WEB site says Up to 2.0 Mb download/256k upload speeds. That should be more than enough for MJ to function, but you are probably not going to do any file sharing while using your phone.

I have Cable 6mbps down/ 512 kbps up which is not all that much better than ClearWire on the upload speed and my MJ performs better than my cell or land-line for that matter. And of course to be honest I will add the disclaimer that my claim about it being better than my Cell or Land Line is most of the time, sometimes for no apparent reason MJ just decides to through a temper tantrum and act up. but 95% of the time is is fairly well behaved.

The key words here are "up to 2 Mb download/256K upload". As with any wireless technology, speed is depending upon signal quality. Unless you're sitting in one spot where it's near the ClearWire tower, you're not getting anything near 2 Mb. I heard many people complaining about ClearWire signal quality in the Seattle area. Some swear by it, some are ready to go back to dial-up Many ClearWire/online gamers are not happy due to packet delays, response time, etc.

But getting back to andyb's question, yes MJ would work fine with ClearWire if the signal quality is good.

Magicjack does work with clearwire, my clearwire modem has 5 lit lights...Clear talking with MJ..

One thing to know u cannot run MJ through a computer that is using a wireless router.. It has to hook to the main computer that is directly connected to the clearwire modem.. I have 4 comps 3 on wireless none work with MJ but my older then dirt comp that is directly connected to clearwire modem with the Ethernet does work. Just fine..It is not hurting my other comps on speed or downloading..

You do not need to upgrade clearwire either.. I have the 29.99 life price and i am surfing and downloading music, playing games just fine..

I also sent a MJ to my kid who is in collage in Guatemala and i talk to him daily with no problems..and that Magic Jack is working on a Telefónica (Movistar) web connection.

I have clearwire, 6Mbps download with 1Mbps upload.
I get 5 lights (full signal strength) with Clear. However, my speed consistantly drops to 3Mbps down, the upload never seems to change.

BUT

My MJ is almost always staticy and terrible, cuts in and out and is for the most part virtually unusable.

I'm wondering if it's the cordless phone itself or if it's the combination of the cordless phone, the clearwire wifi, and the wireless router all being within about of foot of each other... each of them interfering with the other causing the modem to slow down and the phone to act poorly...

Any suggestions for someone who uses a similar setup that is working well would be appreciated... information such as location of each piece of equipment as well as typical internet speed achieved...

My equipment:
Brand New Clearwire Wifi router
Linksys MiMo Rangemax wireless router
Vtech 2.4Ghz Cordless phone
AMD Phenom 9750 pc with 4GB RAM running Windows 7

Oh, and this PC is directly connected to the Linksys router, both my router and the clearwire modem are side by side on my desk, the cordless phone is about a foot below from them on top of the tower under my desk.

A friend is on a Canadian WiMax system that is beamed wirelessly a distance of about 19 km to an antenna on his roof. My friend gets about 400 kbps down and about 130 kbps up. Those are lower specs than your Clearwire and MJ calls are OK. If his ISP is busy (e.g., in the afternoons and evenings when everyone gets home and starts logging on, then his calls start to deteriorate, mostly his voice going out as his upload is marginal. He can hear me fine (his download is adequate).

With MJ on most ISPs, upload speed is the limiting factor (assuming no significant lag) as upload is generally slower than download. if you get close to 256 kbps, you should be fine. If you get a chance with your family's PCs, search Google for "voip test" and run some of the voip tests to check their jitter, lag, and MOS score.
