Apparent Sansa e200 series MP3 conflict

Post by lbarrett »

My Sansa e280 worked, then I got my neat new MagicJack device...attached it, installed it, made a few phone calls, then could no longer access my MP3 from My Computer, Windows Media Player or Overdrive, so the MP# player is now basically worthless!

When I look at My Computer, there are two icons (disks H: and I: ) with the Magic Jack logo, and no longer is there a connection for the Sandisk E280.

I cannot see where to remove the Magic Jack from the system, and there seems to be no way to get the Sandisk to re-install.

Any suggetions would be appreciated.

I will try to help.

First, is your Sansa e280 setup as an MTP device or MSC device. According to the manual I found on the net, you check from the Main Menu | Settings/USB Modes and you can see which is selected. If you have selected MTP, the device is not assigned a drive letter and I would seriously doubt MagicJack is causing a conflict.

I assume it is actually set-up as MSC, so what happens if you disconnect the MagicJack and then plug in your Sansa e280? Does the e280 reappear as your H: and I: drives?
If your e280 drives reappear, then I would guess the MagicJack is masking the drives your e280 would normally have. I would try to fix this by connecting the e280 and then connecting the MagicJack. This should force the MagicJack to take the next two available drive letters. When you remove your Sansa, the installed drive letters it using (I am assuming they are H: and I: will still be available the next time you plug your Sansa in.

Try that and let me know what happens.

Thanks for the reply. I finally understood to go to the settings menue on the device itself (not on the PC) and changed it to connect correctly.
I did not even need to disconnect the Magic Jack device...just changing the MP3 player to MSC made it recognizable and start working for transfers.
