Tapping my phone/Magic Jack

Post by Jeanne »

Hi, It appears someone is tapping my phone. I have someone who is stalking me who has been able to tap into my landline and was able to tap into my magic jack that plugged into the side of my computer. He had my ip address and my router ip and also my phone's mac address. I bought a new magic jack that plugs into my router and I bought a new router. I thought I was protected. (He doesn't have my magic jack mac address either.) He does have the phone number. Can he tap into my phone with only the number? And yes, I'm dealing with a very high tech guy dangerous guy. Please help.

Thanks,

Jeanne

Since you have to first register your new MJ via your PC it is possible you have a trojan or a keylogger on your PC which in turn gave him your MJ nimer.
There are MAN free and not free spyware, and anti virus/trojan programs you can run to see if it finds anything. one being Malwarebytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/) just downlaod the free version, update the database and then run and remove anything it finds. Another is superantispyware ( http://www.superantispyware.com/). I use both free versions and run them everyday.
It is possible you opend an emal attachment ( or even visited an infected web page) web page and had it put something on your PC. Also there are commercial spying programs out there which monitor EVERY keystroke and even allows them to see any IM ( both sides of the conversation) you have.
Even if you do get rid of something on your PC the damage is already done as far as him having your MJ phone number. Of course you can always get a free Google Voice number to give to people and have them call that instead of your MJ number after you change your MJ number.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Shame there are people like that in the world, sorry.

Thanks Joe, I have a Mac though and don't think there's any spy ware on it. Trust me, he's tried everything known to man to get in this computer. You w wouldn't believe. FYI- I also have a VPN.

So is him having my MJ phone number enough for him to tap it? And what is a free google voice number? How do I get one of those?

BTW, if I get a new MJ number, I know how not to allow him to get it. He got it from a friend I gave it to.

Trust me there was JUST a report about spyware on Macs see here: http://www.macoscompatible.com/news/sto ... lware.html which then links to this article http://www.techradar.com/news/computing ... re-1077468

There are ways to "capture" a wireless signal, but not that easy to do but possible, so yes he can possibly "tap" into it. Again not easy but possible.

Here is the info for a free Google Voice number www.google.com/voice

Obviously what he is doing is not legal, so there may be other ways to stop him. If you get his IP address there may be ways to prove what he is doing. You can always contact your ISP, his ISP ( if you know ) and the state attorney general and see what they can do. Again you do need proof..

Of course if it were me I would invite him over when I was cleaning my shotgun, but that's me..

Funny. FYI-I only use an ethernet cord because when I used wireless, he got in my computer and wreaked havoc.

Thanks so much for the google info, I'm calling as we speak. FYI- I thought he'd definitely gotten into my phone when I posted this yesterday, but on second thought, he may not have. I guess what I really need to know is whether having my MJ number is enough for him to tap my phone. Again, he doesn't have my router ip and that's where the MJ plugs in.

Checking into fire arms this afternoon.

Good idea staying wired at this point.. But dont forget he can "tap" your MJ phone simply by capturing the signal if you are using a cordless phone. Stay corded for now.

Good luck with a Google Voice Number. LOTS you can do with it.

And then get your butt over to a firing range and practice. If your state allows you to carry, look into and do so. I laugh when I hear people say, OH I HAVE A RESTRAING ORDER. Give me a break and see if that paper stops a bullet.

STAY SAFE!!!!

Keep us/me posted

What's funny is that I've been seriously thinking of buying a gun and taking classes. A friend recommended a shot gun because it can be used both as a weapon and also for hunting. With things the way they are, I'm afraid I might need to do both.

I do use a wired phone and even unhook the ethernet cord from my computer when i'm not using it. He managed to get into my network and told my computer to bypass regular proxies and use these proxies instead which he listed. How the hell he did that is beyond me, but it can't happen if there's no connection.

Thanks for you ideas and support Joe, I feel much better knowing I'm doing a few things right.

Take care,

Jeanne

If he had a trojan ( especially a keylogger like Spectre Soft) on your PC he was able to get any and all info as far as logon passwords and the like. From there he can change proxies to his heart ( if he has one) content.
Obviously you are a smart woman so I am sure you have changed any and all passwords ( including your router's ADMIN account, as I cant tell you how many people never change their admin password from admin).

Sure shotguns are nice, but I assume if you have a break in you still want a wall or two in your home :) but on the other hand you cant miss with one. I prefer a regular old cartridge revolver myself as unlike a glock or a 45 chances of it jamming are pretty nill.

Either way stay safe and as they said on the X-Files, trust no one :) Well until you find someone you know you can trust. Sadly in today's world that isnt very easy, trust me I know. Maybe that is why I have lived alone for 9 years now.

You take care too.
