I have a very unique situation. I have a relative who lives in the Caribbean and has magicjack and when they call me, my verizon cell phone shows a local number. The number they give me to call does not work (magicjack recording) but the local number does when I call it. I live in TN. My relative also calls someone in Boston who's caller id shows the correct number and they call that number to get said relative but as previously mentioned I cannot. I do not know what the carrier the caller in Boston uses.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Am I correct to assume that since I am calling a local number to connect to my relative, I am not being billed other than minute usage?
I hope this is not confusing
International MJ call has local caller id on verizon cell

Let's take it out of the hypothetical and make up some numbers just for clarity.
Say you were given this number to call by your relative:
212-555-1234
But when you call that number you cannot reach your relative.
You get a magicjack recording that says... what exactly?
"This call cannot be completed as dialed" or some such? Are you sure the recording is from magicJack?
However, your friend in Boston can call 212-555-1234 and get through to your relative in the Caribbean, even though you cannot.
When your relative in the Caribbean calls you, you see caller ID 423-555-2345. This number is local to you, and when you call that number it rings through to your relative in the Caribbean, correct?
If so, it certainly is a puzzler. Is it possible mJ corporate could be attempting to go through local numbers in some cities and towns where local phone companies that are not friendly to mJ?
