Busy Tone on some in coming calls

Post by bob2000 »

Hi Everyone,

I just recently purchased a Magic Jack Plus. I hooked it up to the computer and had everything set up. Now I am just using the device it self plugged into the wall. So here are the issues I am facing:

1. The volume on incoming calls are really low I can barely hear them speak.

2. I have gotten complaints that when in coming callers call in they get a busy tone and our phone is not even in use.

Any ideas, fixes?

Thanks in advance!

1. About the only things you can do about the low volume are to a) check to see if the phone you're using with the MJ+ has a "line mode A/line mode B" setting - sometimes one will produce a louder volume than the other, and b) get a phone that has a really good volume control on it (this can make all the difference in the world, some brands are much better in this regard than others) - or add a clip-on volume amplifier to the earpiece on the handset. I bought a Panasonic Dect 6 unit in part because its volume control is pretty decent in this regard (I found Uniden's to be pretty crappy, way too soft even when set to maximum volume although its speakerphone function is VER loud).

2. Assuming your callers are *sometimes* getting a "fast-busy" signal, this means that their telephone company's "route" that their calls have to take to reach your MJ number are often overloaded, often involve multiple companies, and can therefor can be difficult to correct. Your best bet is to a) suggest to your callers that they notify *their* phone company of the problem (let them know of your phone number and that your phone company is "YMAX," BTW), and b) start a "live help chat" with MJ and let *them* know of the problem (IF the problem is truly at MJ's end, this will be the only way that they'll know that the problem even exists).
