Beating A Dead Horse (or CallerID Blocking & Spoofing Re

Post by Darkman90808 »

The Caller ID Blocking thread is getting pretty long and I'm not sure if this has been covered, so I thought I would create a separate post. First, I should begin by saying I think the spoofing is one of the kewlest features of my MJ.

I have two Magic Jacks with different area codes, both set to call forward to my cell phone. I'm letting my girl friend's room mate use the one temporarily and I have her cell phone number as the spoofed caller ID so I don't get a bunch of her returned calls when she gets her cell phone back.

Just for the heck of it, this morning, I used her phone and called my other MJ number which was forwarded to my cell phone. It showed the correct, or non-spoofed number as originating the call. I tried Stewart's idea of using *67 and the the number with a * after the first digit, but all I got was a fast busy signal.

Afterwards, I tested the spoofed ID against the CallerID test number 712-580-9999 and it spoofed it just fine.

Like I said, I just did it to satisfy my curiousity...

Spoofing MJ to MJ does not work correctly. However, you should be able to call your cell phone from your girlfriend's room mate's phone and see the spoofed number. I don't see any trouble with e.g. *677*125809999 -- If you tell me the area code and exchange of the calling MJ, the number spoofed, and the called number, I'll see if I can reproduce the failure.

Stewart... I believe that's what happened, although I may not have explained it clearly. I *did* attempt to spoof from one MJ to another MJ, which was then forwarded to my cell phone. Consequently, it did *not* get spoofed when it was forwarded to my cell.

I don't think it was a failure, just the way the system works as you described.

Thanks for your help.

Please post what area codes/exchanges are involved when *67N*PANXXNNNN gives you a fast busy.

Boy, is my face red! I just tested it again and realized what I did. I looked at the spoofed phone number and realized I had changed it to my cell phone number to make some outgoing calls. In other words, I had my cell phone number in the spoofer when I called to my second MJ, which is forwarded to my cell.

I tested it and the *67 5*62-xxxx worked perfectly. It went through and spoofed the number from MJ 1 => MJ2 => Cell.

Sorry for the bad information.

When I call *67<any phone #>, with or without the * after the 1st digit, I always get the message: "You have reached the YMAX test number. This call was successful". My MJ # is in 202 areacode.
