I've tried using different cords to connect, but I can't get a dial tone on a phone, nor on my fax. The fax is the real issue since that is what I have been using the MagicJack for. I can make calls from my computer just fine.
your statement sounds like you've been using MJ fine with your fax till now...if so, then I'd have to believe your problem is a faulty MJ device.

Finally resolved this myself. After chatting for over half an hour with a support rep, I finally decided to try what I should have tried in the first place - I disconnected the MJ from my computer and the fax, shut down, restarted, then reset everything. Works fine. Doh.
