Calls Dropped
I am being continually cut off while talking on the phone, the line just suddenly goes dead. Somedays it works but most days no. I use a Linksys router to share internet connection with my Dad in the other bedroom. I asked Magicjack customer service about this and he said something about port forwarding to 5060-5070. I tried to do it but don't know if it worked, apparently not. I was totally lost about the port forwarding thing, is there a real easy way to do it? Are there other things I can try? My Mothers about to strangle me LOL. Oh, I have no firewall up, AVG virus protection, magicjack is plugged directly into usb port (I have a powered hub I can use). Any help will be greatly appreciated, Doug
how long are you on the phone b4 it happens. if I recall correctly, MJ would boot a phone call after an hour straight. I have also never set up a port forewarding option on my router and have about 8 items hooked up to it. Windows firewall is also running on PC and set up to allow incomming/outgoing traffic from the MJ. It could also be your ISP dropping packets

I'm having a similar problem myself. I make the call and have no problems when the other line is ringing. However, as soon as the line is picked up it goes dead after the first word they say. The softphone shows the call still in progress. I've already allowed access to magicphone in my firewall.
Anyone found a fix for this?

You may want to check this thread: http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/rout ... -t227.html to see if it has anything of value, re: your Router setup.
Also, check:
Port Forwarding, Free Help setting up your Router: http://portforward.com/routers.htm

I would be curious if port-forwarding actually fixes your issue. It would also mean however, that if you did NEED port forwarding for your MJ to work, that you would only be able to use one MJ on your network at a time.

my router settings allow my ip lease for ever so you could pretty much say its static. port forwarding probably wouldnt work for me because i plan on adding an additional mj to my network. however, i think mj would have known that most people connect to the internet via some sort of router and that the port forwarding issue would have been addressed. i tried to do the online chat thing but there was no one available.testing123 wrote:You may want to check this thread: http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/rout ... -t227.html to see if it has anything of value, re: your Router setup.

Understood ... I asked them early on (when you could reach them by phone, etc.) -- I have had no problems getting thru a ridiculously tight firewall; did NOT have to setup Port Forwarding ... been able to run 4 of them simultaneously w/ no issues in the past.vandido626 wrote:my router settings allow my ip lease for ever so you could pretty much say its static. port forwarding probably wouldnt work for me because i plan on adding an additional mj to my network. however, i think mj would have known that most people connect to the internet via some sort of router and that the port forwarding issue would have been addressed. i tried to do the online chat thing but there was no one available.testing123 wrote:You may want to check this thread: http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/rout ... -t227.html to see if it has anything of value, re: your Router setup.

I really think something else is going on with this "cutoff problem" ... I hope it is addressed soon ... would be nice to have a Status Page about issues like this.
