janoman,
Don't surrender MagicJack does not take prisoners - ya know what that means... well I won't go into that but is is ugly.
Actually my personal secret to computer mastery is persistence.
Beside you have LikeMagic helping you and he is one of the more savvy guys kicking around this site. I am sure if you take a couple of aspirin and follow exactly what he asks you to do he will get you going. Also I realize most people have a life outside of computers but if you can maintain an ongoing and rapid response chat with "LikeMagic" it will make it easier for him to home in on your problem.
Never quit!

When you plug the unit in, what new drives, if any appear in My Computer? You should see a CD-ROM, usually called MAGICJACK, and a USB disk drive, usually called PHONE or Vista Only, each with its own drive letter. If you see these drives, look in the root directory of the CD; you should see a file named autorun.exe . If you see this, double-click it and report what happens, including any splash screens, dialog windows, error messages, etc.
Also, what OS and service pack does your laptop have?

Hey LikeMagic if you don't mind me butting in???janoman wrote:I've tried it on my laptop to no avail,I'm starting to think I have a bad unit, the blue lite is on now,but when I go to magicjack for the fix it doesn't see the unit.like it is not finding a driver.I'm trying everything.
Janoman, are you getting the softphone to come up? Also try magicfix one more time but put the WEB page in your trusted sites. To do this uncheck the little box that says server verification required. I was never able to get it to run on Vista without putting it in the trusted sites group.
What OS are you using pleas tell me XP - Vista is so damn persnickety.
PS - Now that Stewart is here follow his lead and ignore me. I personally thing he is a MagicJack plant and is really one of their Engineers. (and no I am not kidding).

You obviously have more dedication to the cause than I do. If I had a brand new toy like that MagicJack support would be pretty low on my priority. When you get a chance tells us about it so we can be really good and jealous.LikeMagic wrote:Don't mind at all ... thanks for the help HolmanGT & Stewart I'm trying to set up & enjoy my new LCD HDTV set

When you put it in your trusted sites it will bitch at you if you don't uncheck the "Server Verification Required" check box.janoman wrote:I'm not getting anything to come upI don't get the soft phone. In my device manager I get"Tigerjet usb comp device, then it goes away, when I do the fix it tells me can't find the device.I'll try the fix again and put the web page in my trusted sites.tnx.
Sounds like you may have to do on more additional things if the Magic fix won't work actually two. If Magicfix won't work click on the still not fixed click here thing and down load the upgrade save it to your desktop and the while the MJ is plugged in run it.
If you are still not working after that while the magicjack is still plugged in go into the device manager and see if you have any yellow warnings - Exclamations or Question Marks. If you do delete those items (or uninstall). Then turn off your computer unplug the MJ power back up and after the system is up and stable plug the MJ back in. sometime when it decides it has the right drivers (and it really doesn't) you have to jump thru some hoops to get it to forget about the ones it has picked and go look for the new and correct ones.
PS what time zone are you in?

Are you using the USB extension cable? If so, try without it; many of them make poor contact. I understand that you have tried the device on both a desktop and a laptop. Are both machines running Win XP SP2? Have you confirmed that no drives appear on either machine? If so, try this: http://www.magicjacktv.com/1/site/downl ... _setup.exe . If it doesn't help, try it on your other computer. If that doesn't help, either, contact support and ask to have the device replaced.
Edit: I had posted this before I saw your last message. If the drives are intermittently appearing, and it wasn't due to the extension cable, try using a USB powered hub. If you don't have one, perhaps you can borrow one from a friend for a test.

Yup, I agree that mjrecover_setup.exe is your best bet right now. I believe janoman said he got it registered eariler and got a number. That means the MJ device was working correctly once. It's possible that the MJ device gets corrupted somehow, perhaps due to USB power surge or perhaps a bad MJ unit. If mjrecover_setup.exe doesn't restore its content to factory setting then it's a bad unit.
