The change to "background services" didn't accomplish anything with my MJ, unfortunately.
You may need to reboot.
What else do you have running at the same time with MagicJack?

Running? The same things are running at all times.
I have a USB extension with a mouse and printer plugged in. The MJ is in a separate USB.
Always have IE and Firefox going and Thunderbird open. I have numerous small software programs running (all chars, tiny spell, e prompter, Delgado desktop, Kana reminder, ShortKeys lite, Spybot, processor monitor, Gadwin print screen and a few more).
Avast virus protection.
Toshiba Satellite.
Since the problem comes and goes, I find it hard to believe it's my computer. The computer stays the same.
