Viruses

Post by [email protected] »

Ever since I installed MagicJack Norton Internet Security has been picking up Infostealer.Gampass and Bloohound.Packed.Jmp

It has also picked up W32.Gamminma.AG

I do not recall doing anything else with the computer besides plugging in the MagicJack.

Also, since Norton removes these threats, why do they come back the next time the virus scan is run?

Do I have to unplug ALL of the USB devices before turning on the Computer EVERYTIME ???

Anyone else having this problem?

No ..... I'm not having those problems, but ...... then of course, I don't have Norton installed on any of my systems and don't see that I ever will.

I couldn't find anything on the first one, but the second comes up as this: http://www.symantec.com/security_respon ... 99&tabid=2.

Sounds like the MJ software that's getting caught in your heuristic detector. The reason it keeps coming back is because MJ uses it to operate its software. I don't think it's harmful if it's part of the MagicJack software, but then I've never had either Norton or any other antivirus I've used pick it up. Here's another take on it:

Virus on MJ hardware?

Post by [email protected] »

Sorry i am not very tech oriented. I unplugged the MagicJack for a couple of days, let everyone us the computer like they normally do. Then ran NAV again and the scan came up clean. I thought I had an inspirational idea then.

I plugged the MJ back in, and as it was loading I ran NAV on both the magicJack CD drive and the magicJack Removabale Disk that appear on "My Computer" The CD drive came up clean but the Removable Disk came up with

now that scan says that W32.Gamminma.AG has been fully resolved. The question will be to see what happens when I restart my computer!

So, everything has been clean, no viruses on the computer or the MJ since I ran NAV on the MJ.

Maybe I got a MJ that came with an installed virus like I read about iPods and other items made in China?

Anyway it all seems good now; NAV seems to have taken care of the problem.
