Replacement Skin Files
I have uploaded to rapidshare a zip file with all 5 of the sjphone replacement skin files I have. The one I like the best is the Mega.skn. Others may prefer Giga or the sjphone default skin. For the Mega.skn is the best. Right click on the phone to get the traditional magicjack menu and the options button in the middle gives you some of the options that are normally hidden. No exit button, but maybe I'll try editing the mega skin file someday to see if I can turn on the exit button in the skin.
To use one of these skins, just copy it into your magicjack directory/folder using the name BIG.SKN. Which is probably located at :
c:\documents and settings\youruserprofilename\application data\mjusbsp
Make a backup of your current Big.SKN file first of course.
Also, to keep the magicjackloader.exe program from overwriting the new big.skn file with the magicjack official big.skn file you have to start your magicjack software manually without using cdloader.exe in the HKLM Run registry entry.
The command to manually start your magicjack softphone is:
magicJack.exe /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "G:\magicJack"
You may need to change G:\ above to the drive letter used by your system for your magicjack phone/drive.
magicjack.exe is in your mjusbsp directory/folder (see above).

snowigloo,
Download the program startup control panel by Mike Lin. at http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml.
Download Startup Control Panel
Install it and use it to uncheck cdloader.exe. See if that doesn't stop the magicjack program from loading automatically on boot up.
Next use explorer to right click on the magicjack.exe program and select send to - desktop as shortcut.
Then right click on the shortcut and change the command line to the one I indicated in the first message above
Then use that shortcut to start your magicjack phone after you reboot. Don't forget to put the new skin you want to try in your magicjack directory as big.skn before starting up the magicjack softphone.

You can change caller ID Name but not number with those additional features. Those additional features you mention are also available in the Mega skin and the Giga Skin. You just haven't pushed the right button yet on those skins to see these additional options.
My personal preference of these skins is the Mega skin, but sometimes I use no skin at all.

I've played around with the read-only flag and also permissions on the big.skn file and found that if you remove write permission to the file for the user that MJ runs under, it starts the application with no skin and it exposes a basic "Windows" interface.
To do this, right-click the skn file, click properties and select the Security tab and remove write access from the account that is logged on currently. It should prevent MJ from loading any skin at start up. I think the features available are the same with the SJ skin enabled.
Update: Actually, if you remove write permissions, the skn files stays the same, if you remove rights to the skn file completely (no read or write etc) then it exposes the Windows looking interface.

I'm a little bored now, so I'll post screenshots of all the various skins mentioned here:
1) Mega Skin
The buttons on the bottom are, from left to right, 1) Compact Mode (hides the keypad), 2) Display Keypad (as is pictured, ) 3) Display Contacts (instead of the keypad), 4) Neighborhood, 5,6,7) Display Dialed, Received, Missed Calls (instead of keypad). The round button between Mute & DND is the Options button which will be pictured below.
2) Giga Skin
All lists display in the large screen above the keypad. The Neighborhood button is the lowest of the six buttons on the top left.
3) Silver Skin
All lists display in place of the keypad.
4) SJPhoneDef Skin
All lists display separately in a new window. The round button with 2 people to the left of the "T" is Conference.
5) YMax Skin
Basically the standard MJ skin, supersized.
6) No Skin
All lists display in the large white area. The >> button displays the keypad in that area, it also allows you to change the mic & speaker levels.
*) The Options panel mentioned earlier

garybritt,
Thanks for the skins. I like them, but I don't need all the other fancy stuff in them.
I like the original softphone, but wish there was a way for me to alter the coloring a bit
like:
I have no idea how to get them as a skin file, specially after I looked inside the original skin file and seen this mess,

I tried the mega skin and like it so far, but for some reason the options window just says "unknown" for the caller ID name and won't let me change it. Any ideas?
As for the skn file format, I've so far figured out that they are probably dll files in disguise with embedded png images. There's some other embedded resources that probably configure the skin, but some of them seem to be compressed. Well, one step closer I guess.

Vist Setup of skins?
I have tried the steps outlined in this thread to install the skins, i just recently received my magic jack this morning and royally hate the way it looks, i found these skins but i have tried using the steps listed here and found that non of them seem to work and the manual start i can't seem to access cause it is not listed in the magicjakc/phone directory, magicjack.exe is listed in the appdata but will not run found the only ones that run is magicjack loader and cddrive loader 2 but it still over writes the big.skn using these options hence the need to run the magicjack.exe but it won't load what now? Myabe someone can list step by step instruciongs on a vista pc
Thanks for anticipated help to get rid of the original magicjack skin.

Re: Vist Setup of skins?
You need to make a new shortcut for the file "magicjack.exe" located in the folder: "C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp"paby wrote:Same here.mages_storm wrote:I have tried the steps outlined in this thread to install the skins, i just recently received my magic jack this morning and royally hate the way it looks, i found these skins but i have tried using the steps listed here and found that non of them seem to work and the manual start i can't seem to access cause it is not listed in the magicjakc/phone directory, magicjack.exe is listed in the appdata but will not run found the only ones that run is magicjack loader and cddrive loader 2 but it still over writes the big.skn using these options hence the need to run the magicjack.exe but it won't load what now? Once you have the shortcut, right click it and edit it's Properties. On the top line where it says: "Target: [C:\Users\Gorgan\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe]" add the following text to the end of it:
Code: Select all
/foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "X:\magicJack"
(Note: Change "X:" to your magicJack drive letter.)
So eventually the line will read something similar to:
Code: Select all
C:\Users\Gorgan\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "F:\magicJack"

Disconnected after
As for the disconnection issues, you should be able to find the "Reset Configuration" button and log back into the system to fix that issue. I did that and it logged back in and I was making calls np. Good luck!
been trying to change my call ID name.. when I delete the MJ skins and try to restart using the run commands it won't restart
if I click the "advanced users">"restart" same deal
all I get is a loading bar, magicjack.exe pops up in the processes then closes again
I got the skins half working but I click options, something pops up but then I can't close it or do anything after
the hold button works and I believe the DND and others works too
also I tried changing the 'UseSkin' to 0 and the the soft phone keeps changing it back
am I doing something wrong? a lot of people don't answer unknown calls..
anyone know if I can add a registry entry for my call id name?
thanks in advance

There is no such thing under your control as Caller ID Name. When your call hits the far side, their local switch attempts a lookup from a nationwide database to correlate your number to a name. YMAX does not contribute any info to these databases.jim ron! wrote:been trying to change my call ID name.
Also, your CID is hardwired on Ymax server side and cannot be changed.
Any accidental association of your CID to a name on the receiver's side is purely coincidental and must have been done in their device's local address book manually.
Good Luck

Knock yourself out. Don't come back here bitc?in when it doesn't work.jim ron! wrote:really? a post on page 1 of this thread shows the option menu with 'Caller ID Name:'
other people said it can change the name but not the number
seems they also blocked using no skin and replaced or made the menu unusable..
I believe the menu resource has been replaced
OR, just take my word for it. Lotta water has passed under that there bridge and the bridge has been rebuilt several times and now resides in a totally 'nother place, with machine guns and barbed wire protection...

lol I've confirmed the resource pointer has been changed.. the old one is still available tho =) as for server side they are going to be selling this call ID name in the future.. or thats what it looks like seeing how the ToS reads and the program could be hacked to support it (b4)
maybe someone could post a link to an old version???
one that lets auto update be shut off using registry entries.. and no skin mode still works
if the caller ID doesn't work why would I complain on here? or did you mean the magicjack?
EDIT: just confirmed it still sends "unknown" to the server..
