Hello all,
I am new to this magicjack thing and new to this forum, but I just wanted to share some of my early experiences with the device and the service. I bought 2 units and 5 years of additional service and recieved the units in 3 days, nice right...not quite yet. I plugged one of the units into a powerhouse vista desktop and it recognized the unit, initialized, and began registration process. I could get to the screen that states "please wait, this could take a few minutes", but it would take a few hours, like all night I left it on. I tried a few tweaks, and even chatted with customer service, who were somewhat helpful and courteous but didn't seem very knowledgable of computers or the magicjack device. I have an old xp clunker in the kitchen so I figured what the heck, I'll plug it in and see what happens. The unit booted and led me through the reg process again, (and I figured here we go again) except this time it fired right up when I got to the end. I immediately started making calls...but wait, the best part is that now when I plug it in any vista box I own it works there too! sweet. Just hope this helps someone struggling with a vista registration. By the way once the unit is working, it works very well, its no landline,(a little shaky at times) but its as good as any cell phone. One more item of note, the unit did not perform well on powerline ethernet adapters, very bad call quality, but bandwith is very shaky on those things, so I am blaming the home network on that one. I have also tested the units on a EVDO connection (sprint) and they perform very well. So far I am very impressed with these magicjacks!
