plugging my magicjack into an oversas friend's computer ???

With certain (so far acceptable) glitches I am pleased with the magicjack. I am, however, greatly disappointed with the magicjack support.....however this forum more than makes up for Dan's seeming ambivalence with regard to proper customer relations.

Here are the questions:

QUESTIONJ # 1 I shall be overseas (Philippines and Israel). If I use a friend's PC, I understand that magicjack will enable me to make local (free) calls to any US or Canadian phone number.

I do not see an uninstall capability in the magicjack program on my computer. When I insert the magicjack into my friend's PC's USB port will I be installing magicjack on my friend's computer? I'm sure my friend(s) would not mind my using magicjack from their PCs....but I don't want to load software onto their computer(s). Will magicjack just go away when I remove the USB device from their computer(s)??? or will I have given them software that they may not want, but which does not have an uninstall capability????

QUESTION # 2 When I travel with the magicjack (and I do travel with a transformer and converters for AC power), should I carry a corded phone to use in the magicjack, or should any phone, in any Country using any electrical current with either 50 cycles or 60 cycles work just fine with magicjack?

As far as question2: If you have a phone that works, you should bring that with you. Try to use a small phone which doesn't take up space. You don't know what kinds of phones are over there, if they will work, or even if they will have the right jack. Some countries do not use RJ-11 jacks and then you would need to hunt down an adapter to make it fit. My years traveling with the US Air Force taught me there still exist many incompatabilities between hardware overseas. MJ doesn't care about 50 or 60 cycles since it is plugged into the USB port. Also, do not bring a cordless phone. The frequencies used by the phones are different in Europe and other countries and theoretically you could be in deep doodoo for using an unapproved transmitter.

For question 1: I believe MJ does leave some software behind. Some one else here might be able to tell you how to remove it.

drh3177,

I would suggest you pick up a 3 dollar princess phone at Wal-Mart or Biglots and don't fool around with foreign equipment. Not taking known working equipment on an extended trip is just not a very good idea.

On the software left behind by MJ, if you left that on my machine I would be pretty upset. And it does leave behind a lot of software and autostart applications that will attempt to run every time you ex-friend turns his computer on.

I don't remember the name of the program "complete un-install" or something like that. Anyway there are several of them out there and it will watch the install and then when you tell it to it will remove everything it observed being put onto the machine and any modifications to the registry. And that program does have a un-install. So if you use something like that you could walk away from your friends computer and still be friends.
