Alright, I finally got one

I needed to get a phone and this was the cheapest alternative and i have to say it isn't perfect, but worth the price so far. The only problem i have had so far is the fact that other people cannot hear me too well. They always need to tell me to speak up. I duon't know if it's the phone or the Magic Jack. I tried changing the volume settings and the helped a little bit, bit that is all.

Other than the quietness of my voice, it works pretty good.

There have been some suggestions on this forum about how to deal with distant end low volume. You might try "search" to find a solution.

The problem of other ppl not hearing you well has been a big issue on here. Try another phone such as a cordless handset that has it's own volume control built in. Some phones that work well with landline connections don't work well with MJ.

Ghettoman... I had a few complaints about volume after I tried using it with a Uniden DECT 6.0. I bought the Uniden to work on a wireless network. I later connected to the network via cable and switched back to my Plantronics 2.4 GHz and got far fewer complaints re: low volume. FWIW.

What ISP do you have? I'm connected with a Uniden dect 6.0 to my laptop and wireless from my laptop to my router. No issues with sound inbound or outbound. Have made several long distant calls and ppl tell me they hear me better than when I used to call them with my landline phone. My ISP is AT&T Uverse with their upgraded internet connection package.

Had the same problem. When I got my MJ I was so excited I ran to the bedroom and grabbed an old hard wired phone off the night stand. It worked, but needed something more. Did a little reading and figured I needed a better phone. Back to the computer, searched and found a 5.8 Gh vtech cordless for $40. Works like a dream.. Also tried a $19 cordless that works ok on the ATT line, but stinks on the MJ.

I had an issue with not being heard very well, dropped calls, etc... So I tried a 5.8 ghz cordless, was a bit better, but still not happy(returned to store). Not wanting to give up just yet, I bought a Panasonic dect 6.0 cordless 2 handset phone-much better overall. So now I'm satisfied. Word of note also...On my softphone display there is an announcement of Magicjack now using ATT for long distance-maybe this also boosted quality. Now my family is using magicjack.

PS: I learned through trial and error, be aware of the REN# of the phone you purchase, the reason is, the 5.8 ghz phones I returned were rated at 1.0 REN and only one phone would ring unless that particular ringer was turned off, then the other would ring on incomming calls. It seems that the magicjack can only support very low REN. My Panasonic is rated at 0.1REN.

MJ has a built in adjustment for the phones speaker volume and mic volume.
Go to ---> "Menu" Top of softphone - 2/3rds acrosss from left to right
Click on --> "Volume / headset control"
Click on --> "speaker" slider and / or "Microphone" slider and move to the right to increase

I personally found a little more than 3/4ths across for me - yours may vary.

IMPORTANT**** If you disconnect or resart MJ, you will need to follow above 20 second instructions again. I'm sure it's opn MJ's "we a gonna be da awsumest" fix it list

I Had / have installed a 2 line 6 extension PBX (Voicelogic 206) with an Auto Attendant I bought years ago for about $300. I LOVED the fact that I didn't have to pick up calls from little "Timmy" who a)was chasing 1 of my 3 daughters, and b) wanted me to take a message. Do you guys have ANY idea the calories expended rolling of the sofa, crawling to find a pencil and something to write on - not to mention 7 phones all ringing at once was interfering with my watching "Get Smart" rerun audio. I'm telling ya - it was rough.
Got my MJ and it just wouldn't give me any joy with my old PBX. Soooooo, I bought a 3 line 8 extension PBX with a built in Auto attendant from a 'dude' (dudette?) out of Hong Kong - cost $30 - shipping $12 - took 6 days to get here - worked like a champ outta the box. Only several small differences - had to get 3 cheap answering machines for my and my girls extensions as there was no built in VM an I had 8 seconds to record my outgoing speel. BUT the house is back to normal - 5 different corded and cordless phones all work perfectly, and my faxing has it's own extension.

Just keeps getting better
