Darkman90808 - Hi
Per your request I am happy to share my experience with Vonage.
When I first got Vonage 3 years ago I plugged in in and followed the instructions that came with the device and it worked very well. I did have initially some minor problems with the device sort of stopped working on it's own or perhaps got stuck doing some updates or something. So basically when that use to happen I was directed in the manual to reboot the device. Nothing more. Just turn off the device for about 3 min. then turn back on again and everything was normal again.
That was just in the very beginning and only perhap a few times and at times some choppiness.
But after about a month or so it all cleared up and worked fine. Also there was a setting in the device similar to configuring a router in which I could increase bandwidth to the device itself in order to increase the quality of the calls. I put it on full.
And I've used the service for 3 years and loved it.
In fact that same thing your feeling about Vonage I was feeling about when I was thinking of leaving Vonage to go with MJ.
I've always been the type that can jump into something new, but still nervous.
Anyhow thats about it. I almost didn't want to giveup the Vonage cause they just added all kinds of cool services, and multiring numbers and things like that. And a whole lot more.
Vonage is very good, and I highly recommend it, however read the fine print and if you don't stay with them for 2 years etc. then you will get charged a cancellation fee. No problem really for me, but you should be aware of this. Also it's very hard to cancel, they will really sell, sell, sell you on the idea of staying with them for another month etc. or more. And offer incentives etc. I don't have a problem with that really cause once you cancel it's over, but in any case I felt that I had a very good service and would recommend them to anyone who cannot get the MJ working properly with their current setup.
I hope this helps.
Keep in mine the faster the IP service I would guess the better and more reliable the VIOP service will be for you.

Vonage review vs MJ in my experience

Do you have Vonage now ?
As I've said earlier in this post I'm using MJ as my only phone service and although I've seen some having problems, I've been determined to make this work for me to save money so that I can invest the throw away money into something that actually produces income instead of just repetitious spending.
I've even converted my shopping habits into one of those companies that pay you for referrals etc.
Now working on a Stirling engine to generate my electricity from solar thermal heat so I can get off the electric grid.
I'm going to use perhaps wood or charcoal to power it as my backup when the sun is not shining.
Night time will powered by batteries that were also charged by another unit during the day while the sun was shining.
Anyhow if I get off the electric grid also then I'll save another $400 to $450 per month which is in the $4k per year range.
That would be a nice investment too.
Everyone should find ways to invest and save so they don't have to work so hard, and have more time for friends and family
Anyhow MJ is now saving me about somewhere in the $350 per year up to $500 + depending on how I look at it.
Savings of $350 off of Vonage, which I switched from regular phone service. So from regular phone service to MJ would be in the $500 per year range. Thats a nice little bit of investment. It's not a lot, but it's something and I can turn that over in a few months or so.
Would be nice if MJ had an actual investment plan for people to invest in something with their extra savings. Otherwise it's just buying more stuff.
Like the extra value meal or some other deal they have for a burger for $1, you don't really save because you had a set amount you were willing to spend and now you can just get the apple pie and something extra so you don't really end up saving you just actually spend the same.
Savings is something you put away, not what you re-spend on something else.
Well, anyhow LOL sorry about the long winded response, but it's all very intersting. I hope MJ can stay in business to provide this service for everyone.
Thanks MJ for the savings/investment funds thus far.

Agent_86.... thank you for the comprehensive post. I'm glad you can report satisfaction with Vonage with the exception of the $$$. Since I use my cell phone for 99% of my calls, I really hate the idea of paying a monthly fee. So now, I'm using Verizon FiOS for my broadband and TV service and use the MJ for the rest of my calls.
It ain't perfect but it sure works for what I need it for. Again, thank you.

Roger That ! MJ works for me too
Yup, I would say overall that my MJ works as well as my cell service perhaps even better at times. It's not perfect all the time, but it works and I feel overall it's reliable. I can deal with the occasional choppy call which his rare, but if I just hang up and re dial the call is good.Darkman90808 wrote:Agent_86.... thank you for the comprehensive post. I can't say enough how happy I am with my savings. I use it for my home and home business, and my cell as a backup.
I don't really even need a cell but if my car breaks down I want to be able to call for service or tow etc. I don't want to be stranded on the road. Thats the only real reason I have a cell at this point.
Happy savings to all.
Vonage
I am happy to see some people have had good experance with Vonage. Our youngest son and his family also have had Vonage for several years now and it's been great for them. They got us to try it. What a disaster! Worst phone service we've ever had. Road Runner 7.0..avg down of 6800+ up of 500 - 700.. std. Two weeks to get the modem...from them..charged me from day I ordered not day I started up service..3 weeks diff..$$..had kids in Mich and New York ..We could call them..they couldn't call us most of the time. One in 5 call's would come thru. I called CS an avg of 3 times a week for 2 months. I had 12 work orders going at one time and 4 still open when I quit after 2 months of that crap! Tried to charge me close to $300 bucks for service and early termination fee. Said I would not pay for somthing that didn't work and never had and besides that 1st 2 month's were free. Basicly told me "ts" if I didn't like it, leave, they were billing me (that would be my debit card for my bank) anyway. Nice bunch of folks over in the PI..Cubu City. Talked to my bank, ..they said Vonage was like AOL almost impossiable to get out of, but.....I love WaMu , they got it togather and "fixed" it..now Vonage is SOL! WOOOWHOOOO! My MJ is working perfect. Dang thing is so clear our youngest said he was happy to see "Vonage" got it fixed and that it sounded better than his ..his MJ is already on the way..lol
Vonage Nightmares
I had vonage for 2 months and it was horrible. I even upgraded the the road runner turbo and I was not able to browse the internet while I was talking. Went through all the adjustments, tried new stuff and ended up cancelling it. They charged me the REBATES back they gave me and a $39.99 cancellation FEE. They offered me 3 months FREE not to cancel. 3 Months of service that did not work!! WoW.. Kind of a NO BRAINER. MJ is awesome. I was paying $30.00 a month for Vonage and getting really crappy service. Thats why I was so sceptical about MJ. I thought it was too good to be true. Well Magic Jack is way better than Vonage for me at least and does everything Vonage did that I needed it for.
