Call waiting and call on hold music.

Post by HolmanGT »

To all,

I believe the fact that putting a caller on hold lets them listen to elevator music has already been mentioned, but I just noticed last night that when you switch to a incoming call waiting caller the party you are currently switching away from now gets to listen to elevator music. I have not paid much attention to the music but it is a nice professional touch to the MJ list of features.

One other thing I would like to mention is for people that don't want to use MJ Voice Mail a Panasonic KS-TG1034PK has the option of switching to its own internal voice mail on 2,3,4,5,6 or 7 rings which at 3 rings will beat MJ's voice mail to the punch and pick up before MJ does. This way you can use your own built in local answering machine. This is a feature that I really find handy. Also the Panasonic has no problem with terminating the VM if you pick-up during the process and proceed as if it had never entered VM.

The way the Panasonic VM works and the addition of music on hold or while answering a call waiting call I personally find very worth while additions to the MagicJack bag of tricks.

Regards,

Yes.....the music in call waiting is pretty kewl.

I have a Uniden and if I set my answering machine to 3 rings, it picks up before MJ as well.

If someone calls me and I put them on HOLD, when I click RESUME it gives me a dial tone, and the other person hears no more music but stays connected...but there is no way I can get them back on the line because it is disconnected on my end..... what is the deal with this? I have tried on other computers, I have had others call me from cell phones, lan lines in different states....HOLD button works but RESUME disconnects call!!! Very frustrating. I was on Live tech support for over 3 hours doing tons of things to my computer. I must have restarted, formated, upgraded about half a dozen times..... tech support is going to have someone call me about this issue.

This is not meant to be facetious but there are few lessons to learn here.

1. Never do anything 1st level Tech Support says unless you want your computer to fail to do anything after they are thru fornicating your machine.

2. Tech Support is only good for resetting your server account when required. This requires that you have the problem escilated to a person that can do this for you. Albeit I think you may be fighting a problem they (MJ) have not complete worked out in their code yet.

3. Problems that just crop up out of the blue "ARE ALWAYS ON THE MJ END". Assuming you have not added some software that MJ does not play with well, and Tech Support couldn't give you that information any way. Well my last statement is a lie. They will have you remove every program on your computer and when they have completed the labotomy on your machine and it stills doesn't work you will be on you own to put it all back together.

A. Ask to have your problem escalated - this is very important.
B. Ask to have your MJ account reset.
C. If that doesn't fix the problem you will will be much better off living with the problem as apposed to stressing yourself out trying to fix something that has nothing to do with you equipment and is stricly an MJ problem as verified by you using another machine and having the same problem.
D. A lot of very enoying MJ problems will also go away on their own if you have the patience to wait out the MagicJack programmers. Let someone else call and call and end up with their computer and MJ system not working at all. When that happens enough the MJ Programmers seem to step in and fix the problem and onday you log in and Eureka - It works.

In parting I am going to say one more thing (hopefully a Telco Guru will step up and set me/us straight) passing a "Flash" signal over the Internet and thru possibly several CO(s) without one to the CO centers getting confused strikes me as pretty remarkable in the first place.

OK I lied again, one more thing I am completely sympathetic with your disappointment in this particular service but all my rhetoric is really meant to give you a better way to contact Tech Support - Escalate, Escalate, Escalate. And should that not work try to live with it or get a very big bottle of TUM's (antacids).

Keep in mind the poor Pilipino, and mean financially, person that initially answers the Chat request is a Multilingual (in my opinion well educated) making $2.50 an hour if he or she is lucky, that knows nothing about about MJ. They don't own one, they don't have a computer at home and may not even have electricity much less broad band service if they did own such luxuries. The are reading from a key word database. They mean well and do their best so they stay employed - but under skilled is under skilled no matter how you slice it. They were hired for their bilingual skills (very impressive to someone like me that can't even master his native English) and nothing more.

OK - so I talk too much, sorry about that. NOT

George, you speak with common sense. Filipinos do tend to have good English skills, and are happy to work in an air conditioned setting such as a call center. And, yes, they are only as good as the scripts put before them. Considering the very limited scripts they are equipped with, I agree that these individuals on the front line do a terrific job. These folks are being asked to weave a blanket with only a pitchfork as a tool.

As for transporting the hookswitch flash signal, it doesn't. A flash is interpreted in the TigerJet chip (or your ATA) and is acted upon locally. At least, that's the way it's supposed to work. My guess is that this intermittent hold problem is not originating with your phone connected to your dongle, but rather to some glitch inside either the softphone or inside MJ's server.

I actually tried pressing the flash button on my phone and it does put the caller on hold, but when I press flash to come back to the caller it hangs up on them. I also tried a combination of flash, hold, and resume and they all fail. I was escalated from 1st level to 2nd level support and supposedly they're having someone from tech support contact me with in 24-48 hours which was 72 hours ago so.......lol so much for the escalation! I am hooked on the hold music. I run two businesses and this feature is a must for me. I started looking into music on hold adapters online...cost around $100 - $300 sadly to say....... I just don't understand how others with magicjack do not have this problem. I am thinking of asking them to send me a new one or reset my account as you suggested or even BOTH!

Just found the music tonight when on MJ with a friend from Texas, I leaned on the flash button, lol, connected and disconnected him to the hold music several times no problem, tried doing it when connected to my landline, had same results as usnswcc, could go on hold and hear the music, but next FLASH to reconnect, causes total disconnect.

You got to keep it simple for folks like me. You are saying while talking to your friend the hold function worked i.e... your friend was on hold he heard some music when you took him off hold the music stopped and your friend was still there?

But when you tried the same thing while connected to your home land line it failed and you ended up getting disconnected?

If that is what happened that is truly strange but smack dab in MagicJack's lap, IMHO.

1) Friend calls me
2) I put him on HOLD by clicking on HOLD
3) He hears music, everything is ok so far
4) I click RESUME and call gets disconnected but my friend is still connected but hears no music
5) I on the other hand hear a dial tone...so who knows what he is connected to but regardless it's a lost call...and happens each and every time.

I asked for a replacement and I am getting one in the next few days. I say who ever has this problem, ask for a replacement. Soon enough they will notice the problem and do something to fix the darn thing

BUT... didn't you say it worked correctly with your home land line? I would think that points to the MJ Network not your MJ device. Oh-well we will know when you get the new one.

You are correct Holman, I put my friend in Texas on hold, back and forth several times with no problem, he was hearing the music. So...I decided I wanted to hear for myself what type of music it was playing, used my landline and called MJ number, put myself on hold, heard music, tried reconnecting and hangs up, tried several times and always hung up.

Weird indeed, but just reporting my results, will have to test it with my friend again when I get time.

all this HOLD stuff not working, and the incoming calls not working sometimes and other stuff mentioned with the weird stuff happening with the magicjack is not the computer, software, or even the MJ dongle at fault...

it's the Magicjack Service going screwy

I have the same problems using my MJ SIP info in my dedicated WiFi phone, to test it

I have the same issue with the HOLD feature. It puts the first call on hold, and I can talk to the second caller. As soon as I press flash or resume on the softphone to go back to the first call, both lines disconnects. I did not think to ask for a replacement. I was told last night that this is a known issue that they are trying to fix. I left it at that. Besides that, the magicjack has actually worked great. People can hear me just fine and the calls are not garbled. I am trying to see if I can use magicjack as my home phone service to replace Vonage. The Vonage service has been excellent. I have had it for 3 years without any problems on the Vonage side. I would just like to eliminate another bill if possible.

I have the on-hold problem with my DPH-541 WiFi phone too. Momo, are your callers able to hear you on your DPH-541? Mine can't, although we can hear each other if I call them.

I think you can adjust the flash delay from regedit but every time you unplug magic jack the rom c-mos permanantly burned non changable rom in the usb stick installes the fake cdrom directorys and the usb drive witch changes every thing back the way it was the 1st time you plugged it in the only way to circumvent this would be to change a update file youre self and upload new info into the magic jacks firmware youre self witch i dont suggest anyone here make unless they make a recovery file witch flashes it back the way it was sufficed they run recovery 1st time before they run hack the recovery file would come w hacked update file and would need to be ran 1st to save firmware and save it to harddrive so you can recover from up firmware.
anyway i think you should just plug a normal phone into magic jack usb plug then just leave it in handset mode it will still work like a normal phone just not ring COME ON NOW how could a usb jack ring a 60v ac ring signal anyway the phone works same if magic jack in handset mode or if its in telephone mode I always leave it in handset mode to turn up vol.

I think if you let the telephone plugged into the phone plug and hang up normal flash like to answer other line then you would beable to change from call waiting.

[quote="mberlant"]George, you speak with common sense. Filipinos do tend to have good English skills, ]
The problem with that statement is you quoted Filipinos like i sometimes quote somolians whell we all know derogotory sterotyping just starts bitch fights instead i would have just said people who work for call centers should beable to 1st speak english as whell as a gas station attendant I mean good english not ones who go this problems instead of you mean the dns server does nothing unless you input one 1st on dsl An american normal person who speaks english would also know TECHNICAL edicate and furthermore like the REAL american TECH you get to talk to at qwest when you ask for a ACTION TECH Tech who actully took a course on ip and networking and who knows what the hell you are talking about like i asked a Magic employee a question about weather i could change the ring tone and they told me the amount defalut was 4 rings i said no you dumb ass ok i didnt call them a dumb ass even though i typed in ring tone not number of rings i just kept asking same question over untill they said no.
i just want to pick a wav file instead of defult windows ringin tone I wish magic Jack would instead of just being like ZIFF DAVIS a lame company who only cares about $ should come out with some new skins with some more features or a magic jack 2 a more expensive version with a custom skin directory you can choose to use profile 1 or 2 and once you choose it sticks using the internet to choose then if you it up it defaults to profile 1 the normal lame magic jack settings but if you choose profile 2 you can change the look of the skin and minimize to clock tray and keep minimized only see a popup of accept incoming call or ignore and a small caller id box you can move around or minimize to clock.
you could also hide clock icon unless a call happend.
But i think youre flash delay might be wrong or do what i did unplug magic jack then replug and downlod update then it says lucky you and updates it self choose handset but use telephone unless you pick up normal telephone it will assume handset but still work w telephone it just cant ring a normal telephone cause they need 60v ac to ring to 70v ac.
so let youre computer never sleep you can however sleep harddrive after 3 mn and it will still ring!.
at least we can keep our harddrivs.

hmm youre using a handset just push hang up then answer like normal telephone and push hang up again Ie push talk to hang up and talk to reanswer . this is why i think you need a normal telephone to do the call waiting .
Think of magic jack as a cheap vonage plug w no 60v ring pulse to ring normal telephone set.

again thats because you pushed flash try using the mouse to switch callers mabie this would fix that problem since youre using handset i assume since i listened to my v mail using handset and just used mouse i dont even have mic yet so i assume handset features would let u use mouse to switch between call on callwaiting and this would fix youre problem.. good luck

make shure youre usb cable is tight dont let phone line pull on magic jack.
also loadup the update then plug normal phone line into magic jack not connected to qwest or local phone company and you can answer any phone 1 at a time in house and the ring comes from magic jack software threw computer speakers if you leave magic jack popup in the handset mode but use normal telephone anyway this lets speakers ring but you use normal telephone to answer phone this way you can just push talk to switch between caller id waiting I have to try call waiting w my normal telephone as i am using a NORTHWESTERN BELL WESTERN ELECTRIC phone princess phone beighe in color then lighted dial blue led i put in the touch tones only light up on a real telephone line but it does work w magic jack I have to leave the magic jack in the handset mode to hear it ring and can still answer w the normal phone this is why i think call waiting is a mouse click thing.
