Integrade MJ while whole house phone system

hello!

new here, about to get the MJ in the mail and i want to integrate it into my phone box. Is this even possible? I have spare computer that will be dedicated to running the MJ and would like for the RJ11 output to but the input to the whole house...... has anyone done this yet? I am interested in seeing what can be done. Thanks.

i did. didnt find anything with how to hook it up to the outside box and have the signal distributed to the rest of jacks in the house.

It's been done, although I just read the posts in passing. Searching can be a little challenging sometimes if there is a lot of discussion re: a particular issue. Looks like you'll have to work for this one, unless one of the posters happens upon your request and can send you a link.

Any reason not to just use cordless phones?

i will use a cordless phone, but i want to be able to just plug in a phone and not have to worry about anything else. I figure if i'm going to do it i want to do it right the first time.

Whole house is very simple. You just run the phone cable from the MJ to a jack in the wall and your whole house is wired. You have to make sure your phone is disconnected outside of the house because it carries a charge that will likely damage your MJ.

If you are running DSL in on the same phone line then my method won't work since you can't disconnect the connection. A workaround I did years ago when I had DSL (FIOS now) was to run a separate line in for my DSL and keep it separate from the house wiring. That allowed me to keep my house wiring disconnected from the telco.

maine-iac, these are good links! Especially the 2nd one as it covers both DSL and Home Alarm Systems.

For anyone doing this, the basic algorithm (my own thoughts) are:

1) If you have DSL,
Then: Best to setup "home run" using DSL Splitter (approx $30+ USD)
Why: Separates DSL signal to ONLY one jack in the house; no need for filters on every telephone jack for regular phone equipment
Downside: Only one jack in the house gets DSL signal
Upside: Best, cleanest DSL signal possible

2) If you have Home Alarm System,
Then: You need to determine how you are going to incorporate home alarm system (review#1 above, best to first separate DSL signal)
Why: Because Alarm System needs to "interrupt" phones to get priority AND Home Alarm over VOIP is flaky but CAN work with some Testing (I have found PCMA/8000 codec worked best). So big question is: are you keeping an analog landline for Alarm (what most recommend) and therefore separating VOIP signal to go to the rest of the house phones? If yes, then best to do at RJ31 in the Alarm Panel (NOT recommended for the non-technical!).

3) If you do NOT have Home Alarm AND you do NOT have DSL
Then: Easiest setup - you could just disconnect outside phone lines at your NID (with note to telco not to reconnect!!) and just plug MJ phone jack into any jack in your house -- it will then feed phone signal to the rest of the jacks in your house - assuming they are all interconnected. Sort of the easy way out. Better to wire it to where the lines come in rather taking this shortcut, but the shortcut will work.
Caveat: As many have discovered, MJ may not have enough "juice" to ring a bunch of phones in the house though. The simpler/reliable solution seems to be use cordless phone with multiple handsets so only one device is driven by MJ. Realize of course that cordless is not as secure as corded phone. DECT 6.0 is typically considered most secure (and most interference free) cordless in today's market.
