Workarounds needed

Post by smaye »

I have had my MJ for a year now. It worked fine from the beginning, but due to several limitations I have not used it for a long time. I had hoped over time that either the MJ would update and fix some or that hacks would allow the additional features.

- Advanced Caller ID- The original MJ only shows the number coming in, no name unless setup in the softphone.

- Number porting- Would like to transfer my old number

- Sharing callerID info- I have an HTPC with callerID software. My VOIP home phone service is connected to the standard dial-up modem. It picks up the incoming callerid info of name and number and displays on-screen. How do I do this with MJ?

-MJ Softphone- Clumsy and useless to me. I just want a home phone with a dial tone. The softphone pops up on each call. I don't think my wife will like that when watching her soaps!

I have been poking around here to answer these questions, but you guys have gone so far with this thing I really don't understand many of the terms and approaches, hence I don't know if there is a work around for these shortcomings, yet.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Please?

Check out MagicWho 1.0

It works!
- Comcast Internet
- Using Vtech 5.8 CHEAP Cordless Phone
With a splitter for my Alarm system which works well
- With 100k Resister Modded DSL Filter cause it was laying around

I see how this may be able to hide the softphone. Do you know how to address the other issues?

I have yet to see a name pop up over callerid. I think we are lucky to have the numbers work. I just save peoples numbers on the softphone, and that makes there name pop up!
