Flash Drive wont power up with MJ installed..

Post by silostocks »

Hi folks,

I have a peculiar issue. When my magicjack is running on my pc and I attempt to plug in my 4 gig kingston flash drive it will not power up or be seen by my pc. When I disconnect the MJ it fires right up and then the mj will not. I have tried on every usb port on my computer and also tried a powered hub. I even tried this on my other pc's with the same result. I even changed the drive letter on the flash drive as someone else suggested with the same result. If anyone has a fix for this please let me know. Thanks

Does your kingston have some sort of security/compression management software that is invoked when you plug in?

Does this boot sogtware create multiple drive letters when you boot?

If so, disable the utility software

How are you changing the drive letter? using MSC?

Does the drive letter change survive a reboot?

try playing with these aspects..

Good luck

That is strange. Not sure what would be causing that problem but I can tell you I use several 1GB and 4GB Kingston (and Sandick for that matter) usb flashdrives and all work fine whether the MJ is plugged in or not. The box is running Windows XP SP2.

Flash drives and MagicJack

For a while, my other USB additions weren't noticed if I plugged MagicJack into an open socket first. :(
[ MagicJack maps to two drive letters when plugged into a USB socket. ] :?
I plugged in as many different items in as many sockets as I could, then added MJ (now in back). :)

 There's a sys-tray icon "Safely Remove Hardware" that helps make sure files are actually completely written to the "drive" and related "services" are "stopped" before removal.
I avoid "removing" MJ.

Lately it seems to stay mapped to higher drive letters, and I've been able to leave MJ in and swap items into and out of the other (front) sockets. :D
