Changing phone numbers within same area code

I would like to change my phone number to a local exchange within the same area code and tried to do it on my magicjack.com. All area codes were available except my own. It looks like you they do not permit changing phone numbers within your area code. Does anyone know how to do it? I originally got a number when my area code first became available, and although it was listed for my city, it turned out to be outside the local calling area. I would like to change so that local people would be able to call me without charge. Thanks
