t5700 THIN CLIENT 1GHZ / 192/256 XPe/IE US

Post by dgriddle »

I was able to install xp, sp28963.exe on the thin client , and ran a buch of scirpts to remove a lot of the software that was not needed.

proceeded to install mj and and aprantly it seems to install, but the service will not start ??
it apears to load says lucky you ....bla bla bla and disapears ??

i believe to only have about 6mb left on the the c drive of the thin client?

I curently have it installed on my work station, i read some that it can only be installled on one machine at a time Is this true ? could this be affecting my mj install on the thin client?

thanks ?

Ok lets see.

1) The installing on one machine only applies to having the MJ actually plugged into one machine at a time. You can have plugged it into as many machine as you want since it doesn't run unless the jack is physically plugged in. The shortcuts etc. left on a computer where MJ has been installed won't effect it's usage elsewhere.

2) I have never tried to get MJ to work on a 192M TC 256 is my smallest one and I have about 30 M left over there after install and running and older version of the MJ software at that. I know it can be done but I think your decision to order the upgrades will be a wise one on the frustration side. It should be a piece of cake with 1GB/512MB.

3) If you have all the Direct X, USB driver, etc. mods in place then you should be able to let MJ upgrade to the newest version. I leave one of mine set not to upgrade and the other set to upgrade. You may want to get the latest version setup and working and then disable upgrades and wait till you see new comments about new upgrades before performing them. I do this with Microsoft software as well. Safer to see if a new upgrade is giving other folks problems first before diving into it yourself.

T5700 1GHz 192/256 Upgraded

Post by streger »

Got a puzzler here.
I upgraded the RAM to 512 MB.
I upgraded the 192MB DOM to a Transcend 4GB DOM.

Downloaded Stroth's v1.2 custom image and it won't image properly. On reboot halts after the DMI check.

Tried all the various HP XPe versions and they image fine, but after running their config scripts and several reboots if comes up with the
"unable to activate" error. From what I read this happens when XPe runs on a partition greater than 1 GB. But I tried to resize the primary partition
to 800 MB then start it up and same problem.
So I 'm stuck :(

Help!!!

I also have the T5700, but I think my issues are trying to use the 4GB DOM.
I flashed it with sp29705.exe and then resized the primary partition (had to use a different tool
than Partition Magic - which reported a partition error). And it is working sort of.

I might try stroth's again (1.2 or 1.0).

Well downloading Stroth's 1.0 version didn't take nearly as long as it did to flash the image.
But it all worked, a little extra tweaking here and there and MJ is running with the latest updates.
Now to take it home and plug it in headless and see how well it works.

btw, don't bother buying bigger than 2GB DOM - as is mine is sized to 850 MB and I cannot access the remaining space without booting off a USB DOK with some partitioning software.
--- maybe another day.
