Can Anyone Make Calls to a MagicJack Phone?

Post by sblinnin »

I have my magicjack installed and it works wonderfully, when I make calls to others.

Question: Can people make calls to me? My brother tried to call me on my assigned phone number and the service says it is disconected or not operational. So, How do I correct this issue?

Or, Can you only make outbound calls with the MagicJack?

You can check out my review on my blog: http://costlesscomputer.blogspot.com

Thanks,

yes you should be able to receive calls. Are you sure he's calling the number you chose when you signed up?

Disconected Phone number when calling from another phone

Post by sblinnin »

Yes, it is in the 909 area code here in Southern California. I have tried calling the number myself, from another land line and cell phone and get the same result... disconected number. What could the problem be?

Thanks for you help,

Try to open a ticket with MagicJack support. They should be able to fix that. Incoming calls to a MagicJack number is handled by the MagicJack network switch. If the number is not assigned correctly in their database, then incoming call to this number will go straight to announcement.

Customer Support Contact Info Needed: for MagicJack Company

Post by sblinnin »

I would love to contact MagicJack Customer Support, but I can not find a link, email address our page to setup a ticket to tech support. Please post this so it can help me as well as others. If I call the online Chat, it will be a salesman who says he cannot help me and I need to go to the customer support link on the homepage of MagicJack. I feel as if I am in a LOOP.

Please Help!

You can chat with them, they are closed right now, but might be open tomorrow. You have to go to my.magicjack.com, login, then scroll down and hit tech chat.

If you have a software firewall or router/firewall affecting your computer, if these items are setup improperly they can prevent inbound calls from reaching your computer and your magicjack. To test this temporarily disable your software firewall and router/firewall.

I don't think it's a router blocking issue. If you dial a working number, the call will attempt to route and if the call could not be reached, either blocked, busy, unanswered, etc, then it will be answered by voicemail. If you dial a number and a recording said the number is not in service, then the number was not provisioned correctly in the database. I've been working 25+ years in the telecommunication industry, so trust me, just contact MagicJack tech for help.

I'm having the same problem receiving incoming call from a landline or cell phone that are originated in the same area code. I chatted with magicJack tech support and she called my magicJack number from her cell phone and could get through, and told me to contact with my local phone service to correct the issue. I called Verzion, then when I was on the phone with Verizon tech support, she called my magicJack number and said she could get through, I found out a bit later that she called from another area code. Verizon tech support called me a few times and told me that they could not find any thing wrong their system or my landline, Verizon told me the problem was the "local exchange" (within the same area code) with magicJack system and must be resolved by magicJack, I'm not sure what to do next. At the moment, I can receive call from another area code, or from another magicJack number in the same area code.

As "LikeMagic" mentioned, I believe the problem can only be correct at magicJack system.

You could use a grandcentral number that forwards to your magicjack number as a workaround until you get this problem fixed.

Good luck,

UPDATE: LOCAL PORTING ISSUE - CAN'T RECIEVE INCOMING CALLS

Post by sblinnin »

I spoke with a tech this morning and he told me that he thinks the issue above has to do with some settings and problems with the local port here in Los Angeles. He was very nice and answererd all my questions.

FOR ANYONE NEEDING TECH SUPPORT, HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT:

YOU HAVE TO GO TO YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT AND GO DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND "SELECT" THE "TECH" BUTTON. I WILL TAKE A LITTLE WHILE TO TALK TO SOME ONE VIA THE CHAT WINDOW. THEY ARE HELPFUL AND SEEM EAGER TO GET THE ISSUE CORRECTED. THE GUY, ASKED ME FOR THE EMAIL ADDRESS I WANTED TO RECEIVE AN UPDATE.

SO, THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE RESOLVED TODAY.

THANKS TO YOU ALL.

Final Update

Post by sblinnin »

PHONE CALLING INTO MY MAGICJACK ON A LANDLINE; FROM OTHERS, DOES WORK!

Regarding my local hub and my magicjack phone number not working on a land line when someone else call me, it's finally, fixed as of today. My brother tested the line on his cell phone and landline from Colorado. Tech support does work at MagicJack. And they were very nice and supportive.

So, I give them: 5 STARS!
