I want MJ usage (only) at work (like a portable cell phone) at different locations daily, but where I always have a hi-speed web connection.
Can I install MJ on a friend's PC to register (don't know extent of installed stuff, plus don't want to place it on work computer), have the above listed usage, but send all voicemail (can it go to email like vonage?) to my non-intel iMac (or it's browser). At work, the phone will be plugged in. (At home I have vonage, at least for now or until I get a newer iMac.)
I bought MJ on a QVC special, but have not activated it because I am unsure exactly what that entails and I have the above usage questions. Info is available nowhere pre-registration.
Need help before I wing it!

I don't really follow your post, but I will try to answer.
Magicjack downloads software to the PC everytime you plug it into another pc, so in your scenario.
1. register at a friends - it downloads the software to run in on friends pc.
2. then take to work - it downloads the software to run it on work pc.
3. then take to another work location - it downloads the software to run it on this other work pc.
4. employers regularly block ports so you can't use voip. so you probably need to check that first. if it doesn't work at work, this is probably why..
5. voicemail is setup to go to any email account you wish from my.magicjack.com page.
since it downloads the software to every pc you plug it into, i don't understand the idea of registering at the friends pc, since you will be leaving garbage on his pc, and it's going to download everything anyways when you plug it into the work pc after you registered elsewhere.

I thought the initial registering left the user's download only there. Then I found this:

A. magicJack manually by going to my computer and clicking the magicJack drive. You can also run magicFix (http://www.magicjack.com/site/magicfix.html)
and enable autorun from there.

A. It will install and you do not have to register again. The magicJack number will remain the same, no matter which computer you plug it.

Actually it also adds some registry keys and a couple of other items that remain with the computer, unless manually removed, but seem pretty harmless.

that's true, it does hold your registration information and usage, and contacts on the usb drive, but it loads a lot of stuff on every pc you plug it into.
in hidden directories in xp you can find all this downloaded stuff in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\mjusbsp. there are about six directories, it's 35-40 MB in total.
it also installs a service UTSCSI which it leaves to run upon boot forever.
among other things.
simply deleting the shortcut doesn't remove the programs from your PC...
