**SOLVED** - EPI-3601S PCI WLAN- T5710 1.2GHz 512DOM/256RAM

Post by momo »

The EPI-3601S Wireless Network Card from Engenius Tech. isn't working on the TC 5710

Device Manager sees it, and says it's working, but the Utility from Engenius isn't reading anything from it, and the connect light on the card blinks so it must be getting power to it.

YES, I've got the HP PCI Expansion Kit installed :)

is there anything needed to be done to the TC to have it fully "see" the card?

I eMailed Level2 Customer support at Engenius, but asking here can't hurt.

i think i may know what's going on with this,

the card needs a pci slot that's 2.3 compliant.
i think the t5710 is only 2.2 pci compliant.

i can't find any info on the thin client t5710's PCI version#
even on the HP site.. and the techs don't know either

does anyone know where to find the info, also, I'm wondering if the
2.2 to 2.3 is just hardware changes, otherwise if it's something in the chipset
for the PCI to MPU bridge itself, then I'm SOL (*^%t, out'a luck)

unless someone here knows what may be able to be done.

the PCI riser card looks like it can be modified. there's places on there for extra parts, and mods on the PCB itself.

OH well, I wish I knew for sure what PCI version this Thin Client has

I tried looking for the same info. I found just about everything on thin clients here http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 10447.html except that info.

I found the T5710 under "retired" products - fitting, 'cause it's how I feel too now!

Edit
I looked in the QuickSpecs for the T5710 and even all the others in the 57xx series, and none of them mention the PCI specs version.

*** PROBLEM SOLVED ***

Post by momo »

Hi all,

The problem is solved. When the Driver, and Client Utility, from Engenius TECH was installed to the Thin Client, it seems the installation shut down the Service called "Wireless Zero Configuration".

After re-starting this service, the windows scanning utility started to scan for connections and showed the card was indeed working.

Another tech I spoke to, at Engenius Technologies, seems to think the Engenius Client Utility isn't working because of the limited RAM in the Thin Client (256MB). I ordered a 1GB RAM module last week to upgrade the Thin Client anyway, and will install it today when it's due to arrive, if that actually shows up and works in the Thin Client T5710, that is ... :-) .

At least I know the card functions, even if the PCI socket on the Thin Client may turn out to be v2.2 it seems to work anyway. Unless the Thin Client does infact actually have PCI v2.3 specs, and even HP doesn't know. :-)
