pro: worked right out of the box
con: to get landline voice quality, i had to do a lot of tinkering with both my router and my computer
con: i had to buy a new router that offered QoS
pro: i got to buy a new router
con: no number porting and no local area code for me
pro: grandcentral is free
con: have to have a dedicated computer running 24/7
pro: i do, so no biggie
con: software pops up when a call comes in
pro: we actually like this, since, if we are looking at this computer's monitor at all we are watching movies on this PC, so it is nice to see who is calling without having to get up and hunt for the phone
one question i still had was how much can we do online while talking on the phone and i think i just answered it when i called my wife from here at work.
right now i'm at work, and remote desktop'ed into my home computer, my wife is streaming live365 radio on her laptop at home, and my daughter is on her laptop playing around.
i called home during all this and the call was crystal clear on both her and my end. at least as good as the landline from charter.
i'm happy with that.
in fact, we are happy enough to drop our land line.

for what it costs, and what i'm now saving by dropping my landline, i'm super happy. and it is totally worth the time and effort i spent tinkering around to get it to work.
